"Εγγραφείς οπτικών δίσκων
Οι οπτικοί δίσκοι (τα γνωστά μας CD και DVD) είναι από τις λύσεις που σκεπτόμαστε όταν αναφερόμαστε σε αντίγραφα ασφαλείας ή όταν αγοράζουμε ένα νέο λογισμικό. Είναι φτηνοί στην κατασκευή και αγορά και εύκολοι στην φύλαξη. Πριν τους οπτικούς δίσκου όμως οι χρήστες έπρεπε να χρησιμοποιούν δισκέτες των 1.44ΜΒ, τα γνωστά “floppy” που ήταν εύκολο να καταστραφούν ή να σβηστούν κατά λάθος. Τα CD παρουσιάστηκαν στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 80 και τα DVD το 1995. Και τα δύο είδη δίσκων μπορούν να φυλάξουν ότι είδος αρχείου χρειάζεται ο χρήστης, από εικόνες και φωτογραφίες, ως βίντεο και ήχο… φτάνει φυσικά το μέγεθος των αρχείων να μην υπερβαίνει το μέγεθος της χωρητικότητας του δίσκου. Στην αρχή ο κόσμος μπορούσε μόνο να διαβάζει τα δισκάκια καθώς χρειαζόσουν εργοστάσιο για την παραγωγή. Σταδιακά όμως διάφορες εταιρείες άρχισαν να δημιουργούν οδηγούς που μπορούσαν να γράψουν σε δισκάκια εκτός από το να τα διαβάσουν μόνο. Τώρα μπορούσε ο κόσμος να χρησιμοποιεί τα δισκάκια για δική του χρήση, μουσικοί μπορούσαν να κάνουν ένα δοκιμαστικό άλμπουμ και οικογένειες μπορούσαν να φυλάξουν τα οικογενειακά βίντεο σε DVD.
Οι εγγραφείς οπτικών δίσκων είναι παντού τώρα και έχουν γίνει πολύ φτηνά εξαρτήματα που βρίσκονται βασικά σε όλους σχεδόν τους υπολογιστές. Plextor, Sony, LG, Samsung είναι εταιρείες που κάνουν αξιόπιστους εγγραφείς.

"CDs and DVDs are now the things we think when we think “backups” or buying new software. Cheap to make and buy, last long, and easy to put away. This wasn't the case before however, before the optical discs we had to use a floppy, with just 1.44MB of capacity in most cases, easy to accidentally erase or destroy. CDs were made available to the public in the early 80s, with DVDs in 1995. Both of them can hold any kind of file you want, be it music, video, documents... any kind of files as long as they are not over the disc's capacity of course. At first, people could only read the discs with factories needed to produce them. However, slowly but steadily, companies created the burner drives that enabled people to create their own discs. Musicians could then make an audio CD quickly to demo to record companies, families could save their videos on DVDs. CD/DVD burners are now everywhere and because of that, they are also really really cheap and basically in every PC. Plextor, Sony, LG, Samsung; all make great optical media drives."
