The first is regionalisation: HP 953 and HP 952 are the same ink for the same printer, split by region, and a machine bought outside the EMEA region will simply refuse these until it has been reset by HP. It catches people out regularly with grey-import printers. The second is the XL question — if the printer is doing real office volume, the standard 953 will feel like it needs replacing constantly, and the 953XL four-pack is almost always the better economics.
