Cables that connect computers and servers to a KVM switch — VGA, DisplayPort and HDMI with USB for keyboard and mouse, some with audio — including the dedicated cables for ATEN, LevelOne, Belkin Secure KVM and StarTech.com switches.
Which KVM cable do I need?
- Start from the KVM switch model. Many switches use their own connector on the switch side (for example ATEN SPHD or LevelOne). The right cable is the one the manufacturer lists for your switch — tell us the model and we will confirm.
- Video — match the computer output and the switch input: VGA, DisplayPort or HDMI. For 4K at 60 Hz choose a cable rated for it.
- Keyboard and mouse — USB on current computers; PS/2 only for older servers and switches.
- Audio — 3-in-1 / 4-in-1 cables add speaker (and microphone) lines when the switch supports audio.
Length: KVM cables are usually 1.8–5 m. For consoles further away from the rack, use a KVM extender instead of a longer cable.
