HDMI cables for monitors, TVs, projectors and meeting rooms — from short patch leads to 100 m active optical cables — plus Micro and Mini HDMI cables and adapters to DVI, VGA, DisplayPort and USB-C. From StarTech.com, Lindy, Equip, DeLOCK, Digitus, Manhattan and other brands.
Which HDMI cable or adapter do I need?
- High Speed HDMI (HDMI 1.4) — 1080p and 4K at 30 Hz. Enough for office monitors and projectors.
- Premium High Speed HDMI (HDMI 2.0, 18 Gbps) — 4K at 60 Hz with HDR. The usual choice for 4K TVs and monitors.
- Ultra High Speed HDMI (HDMI 2.1, 48 Gbps) — 4K at 120 Hz, 8K at 60 Hz, VRR and eARC. For current consoles, gaming monitors and high-end graphics cards. Both devices must support HDMI 2.1 to benefit.
- Connector size — standard HDMI (Type A) on most devices; Mini HDMI (Type C) on some cameras and tablets; Micro HDMI (Type D) on small cameras and Raspberry Pi 4/5.
Length: passive HDMI cables work reliably for 4K at 60 Hz up to about 5 m. For longer runs choose an active or active optical (AOC) cable. Optical cables are directional — plug the marked ends into the source and the display.
Adapters: HDMI ↔ DVI-D works both ways but carries no audio. HDMI → VGA is an active converter, from an HDMI computer to a VGA monitor or projector only. DisplayPort → HDMI and USB-C → HDMI also work in one direction; USB-C needs a port that carries video (DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt).
