StarTech.com Slim HDMI 2.0 Cable with Locking Screw — 1 m, 4K 60 Hz HDR, 18 Gbps

Top locking screw, one end18 Gbps, 4K 60Hz HDRSlim 4.5 mm TPE jacketLifetime warranty

The StarTech.com Slim HDMI Cable with Locking Screw, product ID HDMM1MLS, is a 1 m (3.3 ft) black HDMI 2.0 lead with a knurled locking thumbscrew on one connector. Screw it into a display, projector, extender or switch that has a top-screw HDMI port and the cable is mechanically fixed — no vibration, no cable weight and no passer-by can pull it out. The screw is removable and tool-less, so on ordinary HDMI ports the same cable works normally. Electrically it is a Premium High Speed HDMI 2.0 with Ethernet cable at 18 Gbps: 4K 60 Hz (3840x2160), HDR, BT.2020 colorimetry, 21:9 aspect ratio, 3D video, ARC and 32-channel multi-stream audio at 1536 kHz sampling. The jacket is slim at 4.5 mm, halogen-free RoHS-certified TPE over 34 AWG conductors with aluminium-mylar foil and braided shielding, and the connectors are gold-plated. StarTech.com backs it with a lifetime warranty. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The locking end is what needs checking. This is a locking male to non-locking male cable — only one connector has the screw — and that screw engages a threaded hole above the HDMI port, a feature found on some projectors, extenders, switches, matrix units and commercial displays but not on ordinary consumer HDMI ports. StarTech.com notes it works with some of its own extenders and switches and with other brands; check your equipment for a screw hole above the HDMI socket before ordering. Where there is none, the screw simply unscrews and the cable behaves as a normal HDMI lead, so it is never unusable — you just lose the feature you paid for. On bandwidth: 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 covers 4K 60 Hz with HDR, but 4K 120 Hz, 8K and VRR are HDMI 2.1 features and are outside its specification. It is compatible with HDMI 2.0, 1.4 and earlier. Operating range is 0 °C to 50 °C at 0–85% RH.
Key Features

Locking thumbscrew on one connector
A positive mechanical fix rather than friction. Once the knurled screw is tightened by hand into a top-screw HDMI port, tension on the cable and vibration in the room cannot unseat it — which is the entire failure mode in a boardroom, a signage installation or a rack.

Removable, tool-less screw
The screw comes out, so the cable is not restricted to screw-type ports. That makes it a sensible thing to carry: locking where the equipment supports it, an ordinary slim HDMI cable everywhere else.

Slim 4.5 mm TPE jacket
Noticeably thinner than a standard 6 mm HDMI cable and more flexible with it. TPE absorbs the stress of repeated bending rather than transmitting it to the conductors, which is what makes a travel or boardroom cable last.

Full 18 Gbps with HDR and BT.2020
4K 60 Hz with HDR, wide BT.2020 colour, 21:9, 3D and 32-channel audio at 1536 kHz sampling. That is the complete HDMI 2.0 feature set rather than a cable that merely passes a 4K signal.

Halogen-free, RoHS certified, foil and braid shielded
A non-toxic halogen-free jacket for environments where that is specified, over two shield layers that keep an 18 Gbps link clean when the cable runs alongside power cabling behind a display or inside a rack.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the screw fit my TV or monitor?
Only if there is a threaded hole directly above the HDMI socket. That is a feature of commercial and professional gear — projectors, HDMI extenders, matrix switches, some signage displays — and almost never of consumer televisions or monitors. Look at the port before ordering. If there is no hole, the screw unscrews and you have a perfectly good slim HDMI cable.
Do both ends lock?
No. One connector has the locking screw and the other is a standard non-locking plug. That is the normal arrangement, because the end that needs securing is the one on the mounted or hard-to-reach equipment, not the one at the source you can see.
How is this different from a gripping HDMI cable?
A gripping cable uses extra friction in a standard plug and works with any port. This one uses an actual screw and works only where the port is threaded — but where it is, the fix is positive rather than frictional, which is the stronger guarantee. Choose by what your equipment has.
Does it support 4K 120 Hz or 8K?
No. It is an 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 cable, which covers 4K 60 Hz with HDR. 4K 120 Hz, 8K and VRR require HDMI 2.1 at 48 Gbps and an Ultra High Speed certified cable.
Singular Expert Insight
Locking HDMI is one of those features you either need absolutely or not at all, and the deciding factor is a small threaded hole above the port. Professional AV gear — extenders, matrix switches, projectors, commercial displays — frequently has it, precisely because the industry got tired of HDMI falling out of ceiling-mounted equipment. If yours does, a screw-locking cable is a better answer than a gripping one, because friction can be overcome and a screw cannot. If it does not, remove the screw and you have an unusually slim, well-shielded 4K 60 Hz cable, which at 4.5 mm and 34 AWG is genuinely nicer to route behind a monitor than a standard 6 mm lead. Just be clear on the bandwidth: 18 Gbps, so 4K 60 Hz with HDR yes, 4K 120 Hz and 8K no. Browse our commercial monitors range for the fixed-install displays this suits, and see our PC monitors section for desk displays.
Buyer's Guide

Buy it if

Your projector, extender, switch or commercial display has a threaded top-screw HDMI port and you want the connection mechanically locked over a short 1 m run.

Skip it if

Your equipment has ordinary HDMI ports and you want retention — a gripping-connector cable is the right answer there. Also skip it if you need 4K 120 Hz, 8K or VRR.

Also consider

StarTech.com HDMI cables with gripping connectors for standard ports, Premium Certified HDMI 2.0 cables where certification is specified, or HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cables for 4K 120 Hz and 8K.
