The HPE 1600W Flex Slot -48VDC Hot Plug Power Supply Kit (P17023-B21) is a 1600W server power supply that runs from a -48V DC power plant, for HPE servers with Flex Slot power supply bays in telecom, edge and data-centre sites with DC distribution.
It accepts -40 to -72V DC input, delivers 1600W output at up to 91.2% efficiency, and is hot-pluggable and tool-less, so a redundant unit can be replaced without shutting the server down. Flex Slot units are 25% smaller than the previous HPE Common Slot generation.
Before you order: This PSU needs a -48V DC supply and does NOT accept AC mains. The DC cable is not included: order one HPE P22173-B21 power cable kit (3.5 m) or one P36877-B21 lug kit per supply. Check your server’s QuickSpecs, or send us the model, before ordering.

What It Means in Practice
- Used where sites run on -48V DC batteries/rectifiers (telco, edge rooms), removing the need for inverters.
- Install two for redundancy: one unit can be swapped while the server keeps running.
- HPE advises that all supplies in one server share the same output and efficiency rating; mixing types can limit or disable power supply features.
- Heat output is about 6000 BTU/hr at full load — plan rack cooling accordingly.
What Will Not Work
- It will not run from AC wall or PDU outlets — choose an AC Flex Slot PSU for that.
- It does not fit Common Slot (older Gen9-era) PSU bays or non-HPE servers.
- It does not work with the 800W -48VDC power cable (Q0H80A); use P22173-B21 or P36877-B21.
- Do not mix it with AC PSUs in the same server.
