Motherboards for AMD Ryzen processors: AM5 boards (X870E, X870, B850, B650, A620) for Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 with DDR5 memory, and AM4 boards (B550, A520) for Ryzen 3000 to 5000 with DDR4, in ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX sizes.
How to choose an AMD motherboard
- AM5 or AM4. Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 need AM5 and DDR5. Ryzen 5000 and older use AM4 and DDR4. AM4 is a low-cost choice for office PCs and upgrades.
- Chipset. X870 and B850 boards add PCIe 5.0 and USB4 on many models; B650 is the mainstream choice; A620 is the budget AM5 option without CPU overclocking.
- Graphics outputs. Ryzen 8000G and many Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs have integrated graphics; use a board with HDMI or DisplayPort outputs if you will not add a graphics card.
- BIOS. Ryzen 9000 on older B650 or X670 boards may need a BIOS update first.
