Processors for office PCs, workstations, gaming builds and servers: Intel Core, Core Ultra and Xeon, and AMD Ryzen, Ryzen Threadripper and EPYC, in boxed versions with or without a cooler and tray versions for system builders.
How to choose a processor
- Socket. The processor must match the motherboard socket: for example Intel LGA1700 (12th to 14th gen Core) or LGA1851 (Core Ultra 200), AMD AM4 or AM5 (Ryzen 7000 and newer). Server CPUs use their own sockets.
- Cores and use. 6 cores suit office work; 8 to 12 cores suit content creation and development; 16 cores and more, or Threadripper and Xeon, suit rendering, simulation and virtualisation.
- Integrated graphics. Many Intel CPUs and AMD models with a “G” suffix have built-in graphics. Intel “F” models and many AMD Ryzen models without integrated graphics need a separate graphics card.
- Boxed or tray. Boxed CPUs come in retail packaging, some with a cooler. Tray CPUs come without cooler or retail box and are meant for system builders; add a CPU cooler.
