Alienware AW2524HF — 24.5" FHD 480Hz Fast IPS Gaming Monitor

480Hz Fast IPS at Full HD — extreme refresh rate performance for competitive esports players with 0.5ms response, HDR10 and FreeSync Premium in the classic 24.5-inch format.

480Hz Fast IPS 0.5ms GTG FreeSync Premium AlienFX RGB

The Alienware AW2524HF is a 24.5-inch Full HD Fast IPS gaming monitor built for maximum frame rate performance. Its 480Hz refresh rate — branded as the Alienware "500Hz Gaming Monitor" in reference to overclocked operation — delivers the extreme temporal resolution demanded by esports professionals in titles like CS2, Valorant and Apex Legends where high frame rates directly translate to competitive advantage. Fast IPS provides a 0.5ms GTG response time alongside accurate colour and wide viewing angles, distinguishing it from the motion blur artifacts that affected earlier IPS gaming panels. Two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs support the full 480Hz for PC gaming, while FreeSync Premium ensures tear-free variable rate gameplay across supported AMD GPUs.

Best For

✓ Competitive and esports gamers — CS2, Valorant, Apex Legends

✓ AMD GPU users wanting FreeSync Premium at extreme refresh rates

✓ 24.5" format gamers wanting maximum fps over resolution

✓ Tournament and ranked players on a budget vs OLED alternatives

Key Features

480Hz Refresh Rate

480Hz native refresh with overclockable operation up to 500Hz — the extreme upper end of what Fast IPS panels deliver. Higher refresh rates reduce motion blur perception and shorten display end-to-end latency, giving competitive players a real-world timing advantage.

Fast IPS · 0.5ms GTG

Fast IPS technology achieves 0.5ms gray-to-gray response — significantly faster than conventional IPS — while retaining the accurate colour reproduction and wide 178° viewing angles that IPS is known for. No sacrificing image quality for speed.

FreeSync Premium + 2× DP 1.4

AMD FreeSync Premium certification ensures tear-free, stutter-free frame delivery at variable rates. Two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs both support the full 480Hz for PC connections, alongside an HDMI 2.0 input for consoles or secondary sources.

AlienFX + AlienVision

AlienFX RGB lighting on the monitor head and power button is fully customizable via Alienware Command Center. AlienVision overlays add Night Vision, Sniper Scope and custom Crosshair options directly on-screen for enhanced competitive play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it called a "500Hz" monitor if it runs at 480Hz?

The AW2524HF runs at 480Hz natively and can be overclocked to 500Hz in the OSD — hence Alienware's "500Hz Gaming Monitor" branding. At 500Hz the panel operates beyond its native spec, which may increase the risk of pixel errors. Most users run it at the stable 480Hz native rate. Both represent an extreme upper tier of refresh rate performance for competitive gaming.

How does this compare to the OLED Alienware monitors?

The AW2524HF uses a Fast IPS LCD panel — brighter (400 cd/m²) and with no burn-in risk compared to OLED, but with 1000:1 contrast vs OLED's infinite contrast and 0.5ms vs OLED's 0.03ms response. Fast IPS at 480Hz is better suited to pure frame-rate competitive play; OLED monitors like the AW2725D (QD-OLED 280Hz) offer superior image quality but at a higher price and lower refresh rate at higher resolution.

Does it support NVIDIA G-SYNC?

The AW2524HF supports AMD FreeSync Premium and VESA AdaptiveSync, but does not carry NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible certification. NVIDIA GPU users can still benefit from VRR via VESA AdaptiveSync over DisplayPort — most modern NVIDIA cards support this standard.

Can I reach 480fps in games?

At 1080p resolution, high-end GPUs (e.g. RTX 4070 Ti / RX 7900 XT and above) can exceed 480fps in competitive titles like CS2, Valorant and Apex Legends at competitive settings. Reaching 480fps requires a sufficiently powerful GPU and low graphical settings — the 1080p resolution makes this substantially more achievable than at 1440p or 4K.

Singular Expert Insight

The AW2524HF is the right choice for competitive gamers who prioritise maximum frame rate and system latency over image quality — 480Hz at Full HD with 0.5ms response in a proven Fast IPS panel. It costs significantly less than OLED alternatives and carries no burn-in risk. If you want OLED contrast and better image quality at a similar size and price, the Alienware AW2725D (27" QD-OLED 280Hz) is the step up — at lower resolution but with infinite contrast. If you want 4K with this kind of extreme performance, no affordable solution exists yet at 480Hz.
