The LG UltraGear evo 27GM950B-B is a 27-inch 5K (5120x2880) IPS gaming monitor with a Hyper Mini LED backlight, 165Hz refresh and a Dual Mode that switches to QHD at 330Hz, for players and creators who want a very sharp 218 PPI image without giving up high-refresh gaming.
LG lists 1 ms GtG response, VESA DisplayHDR 1000, 99% DCI-P3 (typical) and 750 cd/m² typical brightness. Connectivity is modern: two HDMI 2.1 inputs, DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), and USB-C with DisplayPort, data and 90W Power Delivery for a laptop, plus two USB downstream ports and two 7W speakers. It is NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium, and the stand adjusts for height, tilt, swivel and pivot.
Before you order: The 330Hz QHD mode needs a graphics card with DisplayPort 2.1 output. Achievable 5K refresh rates depend on your graphics card and port — LG does not publish which refresh rate HDMI 2.1 or USB-C deliver at 5K. Send us your GPU or laptop model and we will check.
What's in the Box
- LG 27GM950B-B monitor with height-adjustable stand
- External power adapter
- LG lists a DisplayPort 2.1 cable, an HDMI 2.1 cable and a USB-C cable as accessories for this model
What It Means in Practice
- At 5K on 27", text and photos are as sharp as on a 5K Mac display — useful for coding, photo work and spreadsheets between gaming sessions.
- Running modern games at 5K and 165 fps needs a high-end graphics card; in fast shooters you can switch to QHD at 330Hz with Dual Mode.
- Mini LED local dimming with DisplayHDR 1000 gives real HDR highlights in games and films.
- One USB-C cable can carry video, data and up to 90W charging for a laptop.
What Will Not Work
- 330Hz QHD mode will not work without DisplayPort 2.1 on the graphics card.
- G-SYNC Compatible over HDMI 2.1 requires an RTX 30-series or newer card (DisplayPort from GTX 10-series).
- 90W USB-C may not be enough for high-power gaming laptops that need 140W or more — they will charge slowly or need their own charger.
- Not an OLED: Mini LED with local dimming can show slight blooming around bright objects on dark backgrounds.
- Typical power consumption is not yet published by LG.
