Newland FM430 Barracuda USB 2D Fixed-Mount Scanner

1D / 2D, QR CodeGreen LED2 m USB extensionFixed mount, IP54

The Newland FM430 Barracuda NLS-FM430-U reads printed 1D barcodes and 2D codes such as QR Code, Data Matrix and PDF417, including codes displayed on mobile screens. Install this compact fixed-mount reader in a kiosk, ticket terminal or other host system, then present the label or phone to its scan window. This green LED aiming configuration includes a 2 m USB extension cable. The connected host and its application use the decoded data to perform the intended task.

Before you order:
Check host USB input support, software integration, mounting space and the reading distance for your actual barcode size. NLS-FM430-U is the green LED version with a 2 m USB extension; laser aiming belongs to NLS-FM430L-U. A kiosk, host computer and application are required separately. Outdoor installation requires a suitable housing, as specified by Newland.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × FM430 Barracuda reader with green LED aimer
  • 1 × 2 m USB extension cable

What It Means in Practice

  • Example: a visitor presents a QR ticket on a phone; the reader sends the code to the connected ticketing application, which must validate it and control any access equipment.
  • IR and light sensing support automatic hands-free triggering; EasySet configures the scanner for the installation.
  • Test your real labels, screen brightness and presentation distance before fixing the scanner position.

What Will Not Work

  • Choose a handheld or wireless scanner if the operator needs to move between items.
  • The reader alone does not validate tickets, process payments or operate a kiosk; those functions belong to the host application.
  • The USB kit does not include the RS-232 cable and multiplug adapter supplied with the RC configuration. IP54 does not make it suitable for immersion.

Key Features

Printed labels and mobile screens
The 1280 × 800 CMOS sensor covers major 1D and 2D symbologies. A single fixed reading point can accept conventional product labels and QR codes shown on phones.

Automatic presentation scanning
IR and light sensors detect presented barcodes, while supplementary white illumination adjusts to reflected light. Sense, Continuous, Level and Pulse modes support different integration requirements.

Exact USB and green LED configuration
The 2 m USB extension helps route the connection between the scan position and host. Green LED aiming identifies this U version; do not substitute laser-version or short-cable specifications.

Compact integration with IP54 protection
The PC/ABS housing measures 41.5 × 49.5 × 24.3 mm. IP54 protection and manufacturer-tested 1.5 m drop resistance support integration, with suitable additional housing required for outdoor use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far away should a phone QR code be presented?
Newland lists a typical 40–210 mm range for a 15 mil QR code. The supported distance depends on module size and presentation conditions; test the real code and screen during installation.
Will scanning a ticket automatically open a door?
The scanner supplies decoded barcode data. Your host application must check the ticket and implement any connection to access-control equipment. Confirm the complete integration before ordering.
Which software can configure the reader?
Newland lists EasySet as the configuration tool and provides JPOS and OPOS resources on its product support page. Match the interface mode and integration method to your host application; the presence of drivers is not a guarantee for every application.
Singular Expert Insight
Choose this kit when the barcode is brought to a fixed USB reading point and the 2 m extension suits the enclosure. The key installation decision is the distance to the real barcode, not simply the megapixel sensor. Compare barcode scanners
