The LANCOM SFP-LR-LC40 (article 60174) is a 40 Gbit QSFP+ transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km over an LC duplex connection. It is the long-reach uplink optic for LANCOM aggregation and core switches such as the XS-5116QF, XS-6128QF, CS-8132F and YS-7154CF, linking server rooms, buildings or sites at 40 Gbps. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It needs single-mode fibre with an LC duplex patch cord — it will not work over multimode fibre or MPO trunks (that is the SFP-SR-MPO40, 60173). The far end needs a 40G LR module; it will not link to a 100G module. Watch the name: SFP-LR-LC100 (60205) looks almost identical but is the 100G QSFP28 version. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Uses a normal LC duplex single-mode pair rather than a 12-fibre MPO trunk, so existing single-mode backbone cabling can carry 40 Gbps.
 
Single-mode fibre, long reach
Built for single-mode (OS1/OS2) fibre, the type used between buildings, floors and sites. It will not run over the orange or aqua multimode fibre found in many racks — the fibre type has to match at both ends.
 
Hot-swappable
Modules plug into a live port without shutting the switch down, so a link can be added or replaced during working hours. Seat it until it clicks and use the latch to remove it.
 
Plan both ends together
A link only comes up when both ends use the same standard, speed and media. Order the far-end optic, the patch cord and any spares in one go and the link works on day one.

Which LANCOM switches take it?
LANCOM lists it as an accessory for the XS-5116QF and XS-6128QF (QSFP+ ports) and for the CS-8132F and YS-7154CF, whose QSFP28 ports also run at 40G.
Is this the same as SFP-LR-LC100?
No. SFP-LR-LC100 (60205) is the 100G QSFP28 version with the same 10 km single-mode reach. The two will not link to each other.
Are fibre patch cords included?
No. You get 1 module. The LC duplex patch cord, a matching module for the far end of the link and a fibre cleaning tool are bought separately. Tell us the distance and the fibre type and we quote the right cord.
Will it work in a switch from another brand?
LANCOM tests and approves its modules across its own models and excludes support for third-party SFPs inside LANCOM devices. Operation of LANCOM modules in other brands’ switches is not something LANCOM publishes, so we do not promise it — send us the switch model and we check it.
