The HPE R9L61A Comware 5140 HI is a managed 1U enterprise access switch for connecting office devices and aggregating their traffic toward the network core. It provides 24 Gigabit access ports, including 8 copper/fibre combo positions, plus 4 SFP+ uplinks and an expansion slot. This is the non-PoE chassis: a compatible power supply must be selected separately before operation. Two fan trays and rack-mounting hardware are documented as included. Optical transceivers and expansion modules are separate choices.

Before you order:
The 8 combo positions share their copper and SFP alternatives: they do not add 8 independent access links to the 24-port total. SFP+ slots need compatible optics or supported direct-attach cabling. Choose at least one compatible AC or DC PSU, the appropriate uplink media and a supported rack/airflow configuration. The PoE features advertised for other 5140 HI family members do not apply to R9L61A.

What It Means in Practice

  • For an office access layer, connect endpoints to Gigabit RJ45 ports, choose copper or fibre for the combo positions and connect a suitable SFP+ uplink toward the core. A network administrator must configure addressing, VLANs, routing, access policies and management.
  • Layer 3 routing can move traffic between configured subnets; IRF and DRNI support resilient designs when deployed with the correct peer devices and configuration. These are design capabilities, not automatic protection against every outage.
  • At least one PSU is required. Fitting a second supported PSU enables a redundant power arrangement; it is not supplied as an assumed complete dual-PSU bundle.
  • This is an actively cooled rack switch. Its documented fan noise makes a rack or equipment room more suitable than a quiet desk. Maintain side-to-back airflow and access to power and uplink modules.

What Will Not Work

  • Powering PoE cameras or access points directly from this non-PoE model.
  • Operating the chassis without a compatible PSU or using empty SFP+ cages as ready optical connections.
  • Counting the combo SFP alternatives as extra independent copper ports or assuming every optional module is included.
