Add managed high-power PoE to an existing network
6 PoE channelsUp to 90W per port450W total budgetGigabit + PowerView Pro
The Microchip PD-9606GC/AC-EK is one managed indoor Gigabit PoE midspan that adds power to six Ethernet connections from an existing switch. Each channel can provide up to 90W using IEEE802.3bt Type4, with a shared 450W PoE budget across the unit. It is designed for compatible high-power access points, PTZ/dome cameras, IP phones, thin clients and similar powered devices. The AC-EK ordering option is identified by Microchip as EU/UK cord. You still need the network switch, compatible endpoints and Ethernet cabling.
Before you order:
Check both the PoE standard and power requirement of every endpoint, then add their simultaneous requirements against the 450W total. Six channels at 90W would require 540W and exceed this model budget. The 90W figure is the maximum source output per port, not a promise that every device receives 90W after cable losses. This is a midspan injector, not a replacement for the data-switching function of your Ethernet switch.
What's in the Box
- 1 × PD-9606GC managed midspan
- AC-EK EU/UK power-cord ordering option
- PowerView Pro is included according to the manufacturer; network switch, powered endpoints and Ethernet cables are separate requirements
What It Means in Practice
- For an access-point installation, connect an existing switch data port to a midspan channel input, connect the paired powered output to a compatible PoE endpoint and supply AC power to the midspan. Repeat for the required channels and check the power indicators.
- Plan for different endpoint loads rather than multiplying six by the per-port headline. For example, the combined simultaneous requirement must remain within 450W even when each individual channel is below 90W.
- PowerView Pro supports remote SNMP/web management and IPv4/IPv6 addressing. It helps manage the midspan from the network; the switch still handles network switching.
- The 1U enclosure is 438 × 272 × 44mm and weighs 4.2kg. Allow suitable support, cabling and an indoor 0–40°C operating environment.
What Will Not Work
- Six simultaneous 90W loads within this 450W unit budget.
- Using the midspan alone as the data-switching network device.
- Assuming passive PoE, arbitrary voltage devices or outdoor operation are supported by the IEEE indoor specification.
Key Features
Six high-power PoE channels
IEEE802.3bt Type4 provides up to 90W per port, with backward compatibility for IEEE802.3af/at powered devices and a 450W shared budget.
Retain the existing Gigabit network
10/100/1000Mbps data support lets the midspan add power between an existing switch and compatible Ethernet endpoints.
Managed power infrastructure
Included PowerView Pro supports secure remote SNMP/web-based management and IPv4/IPv6 addressing. AC and channel LEDs show power status.
Indoor 1U enclosure
A 438 × 272 × 44mm enclosure, shielded RJ45 connections and USB Type-B console/communication support a structured network installation.

Singular Expert Insight
This midspan is useful when the existing switch already meets data-network needs but the endpoints need more PoE power. Build a per-device power list first, then check the 450W total and IEEE compatibility. Do not select it from the 90W headline alone. Check endpoint PoE requirements with Singular
