ABUS IP Tube 4 MP ANPR Camera — Licence Plate Recognition at the Gate
4 MP ANPR2.8–12 mm motorised zoomIR up to 50 mIP67 · IK10 · NEMA 4X
The ABUS IPCS64531 is a 4 MP network tube camera with built-in automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), made for entrances, barriers and car parks where you want to know which vehicle came in, not only that a vehicle came in. It reads single- and double-line European plates on vehicles moving at up to 70 km/h, and it does the recognition inside the camera.
Because the camera holds its own black/white list of up to 10,000 plates, it can open a barrier or trigger an alarm through its relay outputs without a PC or recorder in the loop. Recording can go to a microSD card in the camera, an ABUS NVR or a video management system, and the 2.8–12 mm motorised zoom with autofocus lets the installer frame the lane precisely from the ground, after mounting.
Before you order: This camera draws up to 17 W. On PoE it needs an IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) port — a standard 802.3af port will not power it. Alternatively use a 12 V DC supply, which is an accessory and not part of the camera.
What's in the Box
- ABUS IPCS64531 4 MP ANPR tube camera (white, IP67 housing)
- The manufacturer does not publish a detailed scope of delivery; the 12 V power supply is listed by ABUS as an accessory, so plan on PoE+ or order a supply separately
- microSD card, NVR and mounting accessories are not included
What It Means in Practice
- One camera per lane is the norm: frame the plate area tightly with the motorised zoom rather than trying to cover a whole yard.
- The on-camera plate list (up to 10,000 entries) lets you automate a barrier or gate through the relay outputs, even with no recorder running.
- The 1/1.8-inch sensor, 140 dB WDR and 0.0005 lux colour sensitivity help with headlights and low evening light, and IR covers up to 50 m at night (site-dependent).
- NEMA 4X corrosion protection makes it a sensible choice for coastal sites, which matters for many installations in Cyprus.
What Will Not Work
- Plates outside the European format are not in the published recognition scope, and vehicles faster than 70 km/h are outside the ANPR specification.
- A standard 802.3af PoE switch or injector will not power it; it needs PoE+ (802.3at) or 12 V DC.
- There is no built-in microphone — audio needs an external microphone on the audio input.
- No Wi-Fi: the network port is wired RJ45 at 10/100 Mbit/s.
- ABUS lists it as not compatible with Secoris, Secvest and wAppLoxx systems.
Key Features
Recognition inside the camera
The camera first detects the vehicle by its shape and then reads the plate, which reduces false reads from signs and other text in the scene.
Works without a server
Black/white list of up to 10,000 plates on board, with 2 alarm inputs, 2 alarm/relay outputs and Wiegand for access control.
Motorised zoom and autofocus
2.8–12 mm, F1.2–F2.5, horizontal field of view 114° to 42°, adjustable remotely after installation.
Built for outdoor duty
IP67, IK10 vandal resistance and NEMA 4X, rated from −30 to +60 °C.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a recorder or software for the plate recognition?
No. Recognition and the plate list run inside the camera, and the relay outputs can act on a match directly. A recorder or VMS is only needed if you want long-term video and event storage beyond the microSD card.
Can one camera read two lanes?
ABUS publishes ANPR performance per vehicle at up to 70 km/h; it does not publish a multi-lane specification. For reliable reads, plan one camera per lane and tell us your gate layout.
Will it work with my existing PoE switch?
Only if the port supports IEEE 802.3at (PoE+), because the camera can draw up to 17 W. Older 802.3af-only switches and injectors are not enough.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
ANPR cameras succeed or fail on placement: plate height, angle and distance matter more than resolution. This model gives the installer real control with its motorised zoom and on-board lists, so it suits barrier and car-park projects rather than general yard coverage. Power it from one of our
PoE+ switches and keep the cable run inside 100 m.
✓ Buy it if you need entry/exit control by licence plate at a barrier, gate or car park, ideally without a dedicated server.
✕ Skip it if you only need general overview footage — a standard 4 MP bullet camera does that for less.
→ Also consider ABUS NVR10031 16-channel recorder for central recording, and a PoE+ switch with enough power budget.
Planning a barrier or car-park installation? Send us the lane width, distance to the plate and your existing recorder model, and we will check the setup before you order.
