ABUS IPCA64581D — Thermal Bi-Spectral IP Tube Camera, 9.7 / 8 mm
Thermal 256 × 1924 MP visiblePerson 80 m · vehicle 200 mFire detection
The ABUS IPCA64581D is a bi-spectral IP tube camera that combines a 256 × 192 thermal sensor with a 4 MP visible-light camera in one housing — for perimeter protection, outdoor storage and technical areas where people and vehicles must be detected reliably in complete darkness, fog or smoke.
The thermal channel (9.7 mm, 18°) detects people up to 80 m and vehicles up to 200 m with 8 VCA rules and person/vehicle classification, measures temperature with 21 rules and raises fire alarms, while the visible channel (8 mm, 39.5°) records a normal colour image for identification. A built-in loudspeaker can warn intruders.
Before you order: Thermal imaging detects — it does not identify faces or number plates; that is the job of the 4 mm/8 mm visible channel. Temperature measurement is ±8 °C, which suits fire and overheating alerts, not precise or medical measurement. Export-controlled item (6A003B4B).
What's in the Box
- ABUS IPCA64581D bi-spectral camera with a pre-installed 32 GB microSD card
- No power supply — powered over PoE (802.3af) or 12 V DC
- ABUS does not publish the rest of the box contents — ask us and we confirm before you order
What It Means in Practice
- 4 MP (2688 × 1520) is a sound balance between detail and storage — sharper than Full HD while keeping recordings compact.
- The 30 m infrared range sets how far you see in the dark; beyond that the image falls off to black.
- A single network cable carries video and power (PoE 802.3af); 12 V DC operation is available where there is no PoE switch.
- A microSD slot (32 GB pre-installed, max. 256 GB) keeps recording locally if the network or recorder is down.
- Person/vehicle classification lets the camera ignore moving branches, rain and animals, so alerts are about people and cars.
- Thermal detection ignores darkness, shadows and headlights, so false alarms from lighting changes drop sharply.
- Fire detection reacts to rising heat sources such as a smouldering bin or an overheating machine, and can trigger alarm outputs.
What Will Not Work
- Not an analogue (BNC/coax) camera — it needs a network recorder, an IP-capable hybrid recorder or direct app access.
- Thermal images cannot see through glass — do not mount it behind a window.
- Not compatible with the ABUS alarm systems Comfion, Secoris, Secvest or wAppLoxx.
- ABUS does not list ONVIF support — use an ABUS NVR, ABUS CMS or Link Station.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which recorder can I use?
ABUS network recorders, ABUS CMS and the ABUS Link Station app. ABUS does not list ONVIF or its alarm systems for this model.
Do I need a PoE switch?
Either a PoE switch or PoE recorder (IEEE 802.3af), or the 12 V DC input with a suitable power supply.
How far does it detect people?
Up to about 80 m for a person and 200 m for a vehicle on the thermal channel, according to ABUS.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A bi-spectral camera such as the IPCA64581D is worth it where ordinary cameras give false alarms or see nothing: open yards, fences, storage areas and plant rooms. Use the thermal channel for detection and the visible channel for evidence. Browse our other
IP cameras if you need a different lens or housing.
✓ Buy it if you need reliable person/vehicle detection in total darkness or bad weather, plus fire alerts.
✕ Skip it if you mainly need to identify faces — a high-resolution visible camera is better value.
→ Also consider the ABUS IPCA54581B dome with a wider 50° thermal view for shorter distances.
