The Good Connections GC-N0097 from Alcasa is a handheld cable tester with a detachable remote unit. It checks network cables (RJ45, UTP and STP), telephone cables (RJ11), coax with BNC and USB cables for continuity, open wires, shorts, crossed or non-parallel pairs and the shield connection, and shows the result on LEDs for each conductor with a beeper. Because the remote unit separates from the main unit, you can also test a cable that is already installed between two rooms. In practice it tells you in seconds whether a patch cord or wall run is wired correctly before you blame the switch or the PC.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is a wiring and continuity tester: it does not measure cable length, speed or Cat certification, does not detect PoE and has no tone generator for tracing cables. The 9 V block battery is not included. The two Alcasa documents disagree on which unit carries the USB-A and which the USB-B socket, so we simply state that both USB types are covered. If you need to certify a cabling installation, ask us about a certifier instead.
