Alienware Tenkeyless Gaming Keyboard AW420K — CHERRY MX Red, Dark Side of the Moon
CHERRY MX RedTenkeylessAlienFX per-key RGBDetachable cable
The Alienware AW420K (AW420K-B-WW) is a tenkeyless mechanical gaming keyboard built on genuine CHERRY MX Red switches — linear, smooth, no click and no bump — in an Alienware chassis with per-key AlienFX RGB lighting across 16.8 million colours, anti-ghosting and adjustable-height feet. The numeric keypad is gone, so the board is 36.7 cm wide and leaves room to swing a mouse, and the braided USB-C to USB-A cable detaches for travel. Lighting and effects are set in Alienware Command Center. This is the Dark Side of the Moon finish. In the box: keyboard and 2 m detachable cable.
Compatibility — check before buying:
CHERRY MX Red is a linear switch: it presses smoothly to the bottom with no tactile bump and no click, which most players prefer for fast repeated presses but some typists find too easy to bottom out. If you want a bump, this model is not it — the switch is soldered and not swappable. There is no numeric keypad and no wireless. Dell lists Windows 11 or later for the current version, and Alienware Command Center — needed for AlienFX lighting and macros — is Windows only; the keyboard types on macOS and Linux without it. Keycaps use the standard CHERRY MX cross stem, so aftermarket keycap sets fit.
Best For
✓ Fast-paced FPS and action games — linear switches, no bump
✓ Small desks and low-sensitivity players who need mouse room
✓ Anyone who wants real CHERRY MX switches rather than a clone
✓ Matching an Alienware or Dell setup through AlienFX
✓ LAN travel — the cable detaches
✓ Customising keycaps later (standard MX stem)
Key Features
Genuine CHERRY MX Red switches
Linear German-made switches with no tactile bump: a smooth, consistent press from top to bottom, the classic choice for gaming.
Per-key AlienFX RGB
Every key is individually lit across 16.8 million colours and programmable in Alienware Command Center, with effects that can follow other Alienware gear.
Tenkeyless and detachable
36.73 × 14.77 × 5.57 cm and 787 g, with adjustable-height feet and a 2 m braided USB-C to USB-A cable that unplugs for transport.
Anti-ghosting
Simultaneous presses register correctly during fast combinations — Dell publishes anti-ghosting for this model.

Singular Expert Insight
The AW420K is the tenkeyless to pick when you want genuine CHERRY MX Red rather than a house-brand switch, plus lighting that syncs with an Alienware desk. If you would rather feel a bump on every press, choose a tactile board such as the Logitech G512 GX Brown. See our keyboards and pair it with a gaming mouse from our wireless mice.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You want a wired tenkeyless with genuine CHERRY MX Red linear switches, per-key AlienFX RGB and a detachable braided cable, in Dark Side of the Moon.

Alienware AW420K in the other finish, the Alienware Pro wireless keyboard, or the Logitech G512 for a full-size tactile board.
