Allied Telesis x950-52XSQ Fiber Core Switch
Layer 3 management10G fiber / 100G uplinks1U rack
Aggregate 48 fiber links at 1G or 10G and connect the network core through four 40G/100G uplinks. The x950-52XSQ suits campus distribution and server networks where optical connectivity, stacking and redundant power matter. Its fixed 52-port design has no XEM expansion bay.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Order compatible SFP/SFP+ and QSFP+/QSFP28 optics or direct-attach cables for your fiber type, reach and peer equipment. Fans are included, but the base chassis has no power supplies. Select compatible PSUs and matching airflow before installation. Advanced routing and security features require the appropriate licenses.
Best For
✓ Campus fiber aggregation with 100G core links.
✓ Local or distributed network cores using up to eight stacked switches.
Key Features
High-capacity fiber aggregation
The 1.92Tbps fabric and 1309Mpps forwarding specification support the fixed 48 × 1/10G and 4 × 40/100G port arrangement.
Resilient core design
VCStack and long-distance fiber stacking allow up to eight units. Two hot-swap PSU bays support 1+1 power redundancy when suitable supplies are installed.
Managed network operations
AlliedWare Plus provides CLI, GUI and SNMP management plus NETCONF/RESTCONF. Optional licenses extend routing, security, automation and wireless controller capabilities.

What Will Not Work
XEM2 expansion modules: this 52-port model has no XEM bay.
Powering the base chassis without separately ordered compatible PSUs.
Using OpenFlow on a VCStack; the manufacturer excludes stacked operation for that licensed feature.
Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight
Size the optical links, power redundancy and license package together. For a fiber core, the fixed 48-port arrangement is useful; for extensive copper access or modular XEM expansion, choose the corresponding model rather than adapting the wrong chassis. Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You need dense 1/10G fiber aggregation, 40/100G uplinks and a stackable 1U core.
Skip it if
You need built-in RJ45 access ports or a chassis with an XEM expansion bay.
Also consider
The copper x950 variants for RJ45 links, or an expandable 28-port x950 when XEM modules are required.
