APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #55 for Smart-UPS SMT2200 & SMT3000 tower
Genuine APC RBC17 Ah · 2 modulesSmart-UPSFully assembled
The APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #55 is Schneider Electric's genuine 17 Ah sealed lead-acid battery set for the Smart-UPS SMT2200 & SMT3000 tower, supplied as two modules of 12 V 17 Ah blocks and made to restore a UPS with a worn battery to its original runtime. It is for anyone whose UPS has started beeping for a battery replacement, fails its self-test or shuts down early during a power cut.
APC RBC cartridges are tested and certified by APC for compatibility with the UPS models they are listed for, so the UPS charges, monitors and reports the new battery exactly as it did when new. A UPS battery is a consumable: heat, frequent outages and age wear it out, and once its capacity drops the UPS can no longer carry your equipment through even a short interruption.
Schneider Electric lists it for these 230 V models: SMT2200IC, SMT3000IC, SUA5000RMI5U. It also fits the external battery packs SUA48XLBP. It is also listed for: SMT2200, SMT2200I, SMT3000, SMT3000I, DLA2200, SUA2200UXICH, SUA3000UXICH.
Before you order: The 2U rack SMT2200RMI2U / SMT3000RMI2U(C) use RBC43, not RBC55. Always check the UPS part number on its label, not just the VA rating.
What's in the Box
- 1 x APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #55 (2 battery modules)
- All required connectors
- Battery recycling guide
- Reusable packaging
- Installation guide
What It Means in Practice
- Restores the runtime of your existing UPS, so it is much cheaper than replacing a UPS that is otherwise healthy.
- Sealed, valve-regulated lead-acid design: no topping up, no maintenance, no acid to handle.
- It comes as a ready-made cartridge, so you swap the whole unit instead of wiring individual blocks.
- Weight is 24.27 kg in total. Plan for a firm grip and lift each module separately.
- After fitting, let the UPS charge the new battery fully and run a self-test so the runtime estimate recalibrates.
- The old battery is lead-acid and must not go in household waste. Take it to an authorised battery collection point.
What Will Not Work
- UPS models that are not listed for RBC #55. Cartridges differ in voltage, size and connector even within the same APC family.
- It will not repair a UPS with a faulty charger or electronics. If the UPS still fails its self-test with a new battery, the UPS itself needs service.
- It will not give more runtime than the UPS had when new. For longer runtime you need a model with external battery-pack support.
- Non-APC UPS brands, even when the battery voltage looks the same.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find which RBC my UPS needs?
Read the part number (SKU, e.g. SMT1500IC) and the serial number on the UPS label, usually on the back or underside, then match the SKU to the cartridge list. If the label is unreadable, send us a photo.
Can I replace the battery myself?
Yes. APC RBC cartridges are designed for user replacement, and the installation guide shows the steps for each UPS family. Check your UPS manual for whether it allows replacement while running.
Why not a cheaper generic battery?
Generic blocks can work, but you have to transfer the wiring and harness yourself, and the capacity and terminals vary between brands. A genuine RBC arrives assembled and certified for the listed UPS.
The list mentions US models. Does that matter?
The cartridge is the same. US 120 V UPS versions use it too, but in Cyprus you will have the 230 V "I" model, which is what the 230 V list covers.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Battery wear is the most common reason a UPS fails during an outage, and the cartridge is usually the only part that needs replacing. If your UPS is otherwise healthy, RBC #55 is the clean fix. If it has already been through two or more battery replacements, compare the cost with a new unit in our
UPS range.
✓ Buy it if your UPS part number appears in the compatibility list and the UPS beeps for battery replacement, fails its self-test or cuts out early.
✕ Skip it if your UPS model is not listed, or the UPS fails even with a known-good battery. That points to the UPS itself.
→ Also consider a new UPS from our range if your unit is near end of life, or an external battery pack if your model supports one and you need more runtime.
Not sure which battery your UPS needs? Send us the UPS model and serial number from the label on the back or underside, and we will confirm the right cartridge before you order.
