APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #6 — 12 V 11 Ah lead-acid battery for Smart-UPS SMT1000 and SMC1500
Genuine APC RBC12 V 11 AhFully assembledFor SMT1000I / SMC1500I
The APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #6 (RBC6) is a genuine 12 V 11 Ah lead-acid battery cartridge for the APC Smart-UPS SMT1000I / SMT1000IC and Smart-UPS C SMC1500I / SMC1500IC tower models, supplied fully assembled with every connector it needs, so a UPS whose original battery has worn out can be brought back to its rated runtime without rewiring individual blocks.
APC describes its RBCs as tested and certified for compatibility with the specific APC UPS they are listed for, with a lifetime of three to five years. In practice that means one thing for you: the cartridge number must match your UPS. APC lists RBC6 for SMT1000I, SMT1000IC, SMC1500I, SMC1500IC.
Before you order: Check the model on the rating label of your UPS (usually underneath or at the back) against the list above. If your model is not listed, do not assume a similar-looking cartridge fits — send us the model and we will confirm the correct RBC before you order.
What's in the Box
- 1 × APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #6 (RBC6), 12 V 11 Ah lead-acid, 1 interconnect cable fitted
- All required connectors
- Battery recycling guide
What It Means in Practice
- RBC6 is supplied as one pre-wired cartridge weighing 7.68 kg; a single cartridge replaces the complete battery of the listed tower models.
- APC rates RBC6 as a VRLA battery, 11 Ah, 12 V DC, and states it is compatible with Smart-UPS line-interactive SMC, SUA and SMT models — use the model list above to confirm yours.
- Fit it, then let the UPS charge the new battery fully before you rely on the runtime or run a self-test.
- The used battery is still hazardous waste: pack it in the box the new one came in and recycle it as the included guide describes — never put lead-acid batteries in household waste.
What Will Not Work
- It will not fit APC UPS models that APC does not list for RBC6, even if the voltage looks the same — size, connector and cartridge layout differ between RBC numbers.
- It is not a universal battery for other brands of UPS.
- It will not give more runtime than your UPS delivered when new; for longer runtime you need a larger UPS or a model that supports external battery packs.
- It will not fix a UPS whose electronics have failed — if the UPS still reports a fault with a new battery, the unit itself needs service.
- The SMT1500I takes RBC7 and the tower SMC1000I takes APCRBC142 — neither takes RBC6.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know my UPS battery needs replacing?
Most APC UPS models show a replace-battery indicator, alarm or failed self-test when the battery can no longer hold its charge. APC rates RBC lifetime at three to five years; high room temperature shortens it.
Can I fit a cheaper generic battery instead?
Generic blocks may match voltage and capacity, but they arrive loose: you would have to transfer connectors and brackets yourself. RBC6 arrives as a complete APC cartridge that matches the listed UPS models.
How much runtime will I get?
Runtime depends on your UPS model and the load connected to it, so APC does not publish a runtime for the cartridge itself. A new genuine RBC restores the runtime your UPS model is specified for.
Why does the same cartridge fit a 1000 VA SMT and a 1500 VA SMC?
APC uses RBC6 in both designs; the UPS ratings differ in their electronics, not in the battery cartridge. APC lists RBC6 for both the SMT1000I and the SMC1500I.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
RBC6 is one of the cartridges that crosses model lines: the 1000 VA Smart-UPS SMT and the 1500 VA Smart-UPS C both use it. That makes the exact model on the rating label more reliable than the VA figure. Browse all
UPS replacement batteries if you need a different cartridge number.
✓ Buy it if you run an SMT1000I, SMT1000IC, SMC1500I or SMC1500IC with a worn-out battery.
✕ Skip it if your UPS is an SMT1500I (RBC7), a tower SMC1000I (APCRBC142) or a rack model.
→ Also consider RBC7 for the SMT1500I; APCRBC142 for the SMC1000I; RBC48 for the SMT750I.
