The Argus ST-7215 is a 10 Gigabit RJ45 PCIe network card that adds a 10 Gigabit RJ45 port to a desktop PC, workstation or server through a PCIe 2.1 x8 slot. Its Intel X540 controller brings SR-IOV and iSCSI/FCoE offload for servers and storage networks. It uses the Intel X540 controller and connects at 100 Mbps / 1 Gbps / 10 Gbps. Full-height bracket fitted, low-profile bracket included. A dedicated network card is the usual fix when the onboard port has failed, when the machine needs a second, separate network, or when it should move to a faster link than the motherboard offers.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Check the slot: the card needs a free PCIe slot that is physically x8 or longer (x16/x16); it will not fit an x1 slot. Both a full-height and a low-profile bracket are supplied, so it suits standard towers and slim (SFF) cases. 10 Gbps needs a 10GBASE-T switch port and Cat6A cabling for the full 100 m (Cat6 reaches shorter distances). With a Gigabit switch it simply runs at 1 Gbps. The Intel X540 links at 10 Gbps, 1 Gbps or 100 Mbps — not at 2.5 or 5 Gbps.
