The DIGITUS DN-81003 is a Gigabit BiDi SFP transceiver that runs a complete link over one single-mode fibre: it transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm through an LC simplex connector, up to 20 km. It is one half of a pair — DIGITUS names the DN-81004 as the module for the opposite end. In practice, BiDi modules are the answer when a building link has only one free single-mode strand, or when you want to double the links on an existing pair. They are always bought as a matched pair: one end transmits 1310 nm, the other 1550 nm. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode and note the length and the patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is not a normal two-fibre LX module, even though its title reads like one: it uses one fibre and an LC simplex connector. It links only to a DN-81004 (or another BiDi module that sends 1550 nm and receives 1310 nm) — two DN-81003 will not link, and it will not talk to a DN-81001 or any duplex LX module. Order the DN-81004 together with it. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
