The AS-U2.5G2 adds one wired Ethernet port to a compatible computer or supported ASUSTOR NAS. Connect the integrated USB-C lead, or use the included USB-A adapter, then connect an Ethernet cable to your network. Its RTL8156B controller supports up to 2.5Gbps link speed, and the aluminium body weighs 33g. It is USB powered and needs no separate power supply.
Before you order:
For a 2.5GbE link, use a suitable USB 3.2 Gen 1 host connection, a 2.5GbE network port and Cat 5e or better cable. Check the listed operating system and NAS series; ADM 3.5.1 or later is required. When using the USB-A adapter, align the connector triangle with its USB logo as ASUSTOR instructs.

What It Means in Practice
- For faster local file transfers, connect a supported laptop to a 2.5GbE switch and a suitably connected NAS; the entire network path matters.
- The adapter also negotiates 1Gbps and 100Mbps links for existing networks. Its link speed is not a guaranteed file-transfer speed.
- Supported systems can install automatically, but some Linux distributions need a driver. DHCP is the default network configuration.
What Will Not Work
- It does not turn a Gigabit switch port into a 2.5GbE port or increase your internet subscription speed.
- It is a wired network adapter; it does not add Wi-Fi or function as a standalone router.
