Avision AD340GFN: duplex ADF and A4 flatbed in one networked scanner
40 ppm / 80 ipmADF + flatbedGigabit LAN8,000 pages/day
The Avision AD340GFN is an A4 duplex document scanner with a 50-sheet automatic document feeder and an A4 flatbed, scanning at 40 ppm / 80 ipm and connecting by USB 3.2 or Gigabit Ethernet, made for offices that scan both loose paper stacks and originals that cannot be fed. The ADF handles everyday batches of invoices, contracts and forms on both sides in one pass, while the flatbed takes bound books, passports, stapled sets and fragile pages. With an RJ-45 Gigabit port it can sit on the office network, so it does not have to live next to one PC. Ultrasonic multi-feed detection stops a batch when two sheets go through together, which protects you from missing pages. A recommended daily volume of up to 8,000 pages suits a busy department. For most offices the deciding question is whether you will ever need to scan something that must not go through a feeder: a passport, an ID booklet, a bound report or a fragile original. If the answer is yes, the AD340GFN saves you a second device and the desk space for it. Daily work runs through the ADF at 40 ppm; the flatbed sits underneath for the exceptions. Set up two Button Manager profiles, one for ADF batches and one for flatbed originals, and staff can switch between them without touching settings.
Before you order: The flatbed is A4 (216 x 297 mm) and the feeder is up to Legal width; there is no Wi-Fi, so network use is by cable only.
What's in the Box
- AD340GFN scanner
- USB cable
- Power adapter
- Drivers and software: TWAIN, ISIS, WIA, Button Manager, AVScan, PaperPort SE
- Exact accessory list varies by region — ask us and we confirm before you order
What It Means in Practice
- One device covers both jobs: feed a 50-page stack, then lift the lid for a book page or passport without changing scanner.
- Duplex at 40 ppm means a double-sided 20-page contract is captured in well under a minute.
- Gigabit LAN lets you place it where the paper arrives rather than next to a specific PC.
- Ultrasonic double-feed detection warns you instead of silently skipping a page, important for legal and accounting files.
- Paper from 27 to 413 g/m2 and embossed cards up to 1.25 mm feed through the ADF.
What Will Not Work
- No Wi-Fi: the network connection is wired RJ-45 only.
- No A3: neither the flatbed nor the feeder takes A3 sheets in one pass.
- Not a high-volume production scanner; for 15,000 pages a day look at the AD380 class.
- The ADF is not for photos or delicate originals; use the flatbed for those.
Key Features
Two scanning paths
ADF at 600 dpi optical for batches, flatbed at 1200 dpi optical for originals that must stay on the glass. Use the flatbed at 300 to 600 dpi for passports and ID documents, which keeps files reasonable in size.
Long paper mode
Long documents scan up to 240 inches at 200 dpi colour duplex through the feeder. Useful for statements and continuous forms that are longer than Legal.
512 MB memory
Onboard memory keeps colour duplex batches moving at rated speed. This keeps throughput steady even when scanning colour PDFs with OCR on the PC.
Business drivers
TWAIN, ISIS and WIA drivers connect it to most document management and accounting software. Ask your software vendor which driver they recommend; ISIS is common in document management systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can several people use it over the network?
Yes, it connects to the LAN by Gigabit Ethernet. Tell us how your users scan, to folders, email or software, and we confirm the right setup. Network scanning is via the wired port; place it within reach of a switch or wall socket.
Which resolution does the flatbed use?
The flatbed scans at 1200 dpi optical, the ADF at 600 dpi optical, which is plenty for OCR and archive PDFs. Use 300 dpi for everyday OCR to keep file sizes manageable.
What is the difference from the AD340GN?
The AD340GN has the same 40 ppm network ADF but no flatbed, so it is smaller and lighter; pick the GFN if you ever scan books or passports. Both share the same feeder specification, so speed and paper range are identical. If you only ever scan loose paper, the GN saves money and desk space.
Can it scan plastic cards?
Yes. Embossed cards up to 1.25 mm thick can go through the feeder. Very thick or rigid cards are better on the flatbed.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
In most offices the flatbed is used less than the feeder, but when you need it there is no workaround, and the AD340GFN avoids buying a second scanner. It is a sensible choice for reception and HR desks that mix ID documents with contracts. Plan a wired port near where it will sit; our
network switches are an easy fix if the desk has none.
✓ Buy it if Buy it if you need one networked scanner for both double-sided batches and bound or fragile originals.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if you never scan books or passports; the AD340GN is smaller with the same ADF speed.
→ Also consider Also consider the Avision AD340GN for the same 40 ppm network ADF without the flatbed.
