The Belkin Connect USB-C to HDMI 2.1 Adapter (part number AVC013BTBK) takes the DisplayPort signal a USB-C laptop, tablet or handheld already carries and hands it to an HDMI 2.1 display at up to 8K 60 Hz, or 4K at 144 Hz for gaming. Display Stream Compression and HBR3 link rates are what make those numbers possible over a single cable, and HDCP 2.2 keeps protected streaming services working. The USB-C plug is male and the HDMI end is a female socket on a short tethered lead, so you use your own HDMI cable. USB-IF certified and finished in black. Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a passive DisplayPort Alt Mode adapter, not an active converter. Your USB-C port must carry video — look for a DisplayPort or Thunderbolt symbol beside it. Data-only USB-C ports, and most USB-C ports on budget phones, will show nothing. 8K 60 Hz and 4K 144 Hz also depend on your source: the host needs DisplayPort 1.4 with HBR3 and DSC, and the display needs a real HDMI 2.1 input. On an older DP 1.2 laptop the same adapter will top out around 4K 60 Hz. The HDMI end is a female socket — an HDMI cable is not included, and for 8K or 4K 144 Hz it must be an Ultra High Speed (48 Gbps) cable. That combination needs HBR3 and DSC, and most of the cheap USB-C to HDMI adapters still on sale are HDMI 2.0 parts that quietly cap at 4K 60 Hz or, worse, 4K 30 Hz. If you have a high-refresh 4K monitor or a modern TV and a handheld or gaming laptop, this is the class of adapter you need. Two practical notes: it is passive, so everything depends on what your USB-C port outputs, and the HDMI cable you already own is very likely High Speed rather than Ultra High Speed, which will silently limit you.
