The BIXOLON CUTTER-XD5-40D-DG is the auto cutter option for the BIXOLON XD5-40d, the 4-inch direct thermal model of the XD5-40 desktop label printer series. BIXOLON designs the XD5-40 series with a field-installable peeler and auto cutter, so this unit can be added to a printer that is already in use.
With the cutter fitted, each label, tag or ticket leaves the printer as a separate piece instead of being torn off by hand.
Before you order: The “D” in this code matches the direct thermal XD5-40d. The thermal transfer XD5-40t has its own cutter (CUTTER-XD5-40T-DG). BIXOLON does not publish a separate cutter datasheet, so the media limits below are the printer’s own.

What It Means in Practice
- After fitting the cutter, set Print Mode to Cutter in the printer settings or driver (the default is Tear-off); jobs are cut with the CUT command.
- Media loading stays the same as on a printer without a cutter.
- A cutter error is shown by LED1 and LED2 blinking red on the printer.
- Use media within the printer limits: 15–118 mm wide, 0.06–0.20 mm thick.
What Will Not Work
- Not for the thermal transfer XD5-40t — order CUTTER-XD5-40T-DG.
- Not for other BIXOLON series (SLP, XD3, XT5).
- It is not a peeler — peel-and-present needs the separate peeler option.
- It cannot be used together with the peeler at the same position.
