The BlueOptics JL486A-BO is a 25 Gbit SFP28 transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km at 1310 nm over an LC duplex connection, with digital diagnostics. It is programmed as an HPE Aruba JL486A, so Aruba switches that check optics accept it, and it is made by CBO in Germany as an alternative to the original HPE part. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is a long-reach single-mode optic: it will not link to 850 nm SR optics and will not work on OM3/OM4 multimode fibre — for that, the JL484A-BO is the SR version. It is coded for HPE Aruba; BlueOptics offers the same optic with other vendor codings, so tell us the switch brand. BlueOptics does not publish 10G operation. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
