Brother ADS-4100: fast A4 duplex scanning for one desk, connected by USB
35 ppm / 70 ipm duplex60-sheet ADFUSB 3.0Scan to USB stick
The Brother ADS-4100 is a desktop A4 document scanner that scans both sides of each page in one pass at up to 35 pages per minute, made for a single workstation in an office, practice or accounts department that digitises paperwork every day. It connects to one PC or Mac over SuperSpeed USB 3.0. It is the simplest model in Brother's ADS-4000 desktop family and shares its feeder, speed and image processing with the networked ADS-4500W.
Its 60-sheet feeder accepts plain, thin, thick and recycled paper, business cards and plastic cards including embossed ones, and a USB host port on the back can save scans straight to a flash drive. It has no display or network connection, which keeps it simple and lower in cost than the networked models in the same family. Brother iPrint&Scan software creates searchable PDF, Word and Excel files and can send them to folders, email or cloud services from the PC, and Brother's ScanEssentials Lite adds batch and document-management tools on Windows. Automatic blank-page removal, punch-hole removal, background removal and colour dropout clean up scans before they reach your archive. At 2.60 kg and with a fold-away feeder, it sits comfortably beside a monitor on a standard office desk.
Before you order: The ADS-4100 is USB-only: it has no Wi-Fi, Ethernet or touchscreen, so it serves one connected computer and cannot be shared across the office without a PC acting as host.
What's in the Box
- Brother ADS-4100 scanner
- Detachable ADF
- AC adapter and power supply cord
- USB cable
- Quick setup guide, product safety guide and warranty information
What It Means in Practice
- 35 ppm one-sided and 70 images per minute two-sided handles a 60-sheet double-sided stack in about two minutes. That makes it fast enough for a single user who scans throughout the day.
- USB 3.0 keeps large colour scans moving quickly to the PC; it also works on USB 2.0 ports at lower speed. Use a port directly on the computer rather than a hub for best results.
- The rear USB host port scans straight to a flash drive of up to 128 GB, even without starting software on the PC.
- Documents from 50.8 x 50.8 mm up to 215.9 x 355.6 mm and paper from 40 to 200 g/m2 cover receipts through Legal-size pages.
- Plastic cards up to 1.32 mm embossed (1.10 mm flat) go through the feeder for ID and membership records.
What Will Not Work
- No network: other users cannot scan to it over Wi-Fi or Ethernet; choose the ADS-4500W for that.
- No touchscreen for scan-to-email or shared folders without a PC. Destinations are chosen in software on the connected computer.
- No flatbed for books or bound documents.
- No A3: maximum width is 215.9 mm.
- Photos and fragile originals are not suited to roller feeding.
Key Features
Single-pass duplex
Two sensors capture front and back together, so double-sided documents cost no time. In practice this means a stack of mixed single and double-sided pages goes in once, and blank backs can be dropped automatically by the software so files stay small.
Long-paper mode
Brother's guide allows long-paper scanning at resolutions below 300 dpi for printouts beyond Legal length. Useful for long statements and printouts that exceed Legal length.
Business drivers
TWAIN, WIA and ISIS for Windows and TWAIN and ICA for macOS connect it to most document-management and accounting software. If your software is not on the usual list, tell us the name and version and we check whether it uses one of these interfaces before you order.
Low power
About 23 W while scanning, 1.4 W in sleep and 0.1 W when off. That keeps running costs low when the scanner stays switched on all day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add network scanning later?
No, the ADS-4100 has no network hardware. If you might share it later, the ADS-4500W is the same size with Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a touchscreen.
Does it work with Mac?
Yes, Brother provides TWAIN and ICA drivers for macOS; tell us your macOS version and we confirm the current driver.
Is it suitable for scanning receipts?
Yes. Documents from 50.8 mm wide and paper from 40 g/m2 feed through, so most receipts scan well; very thin or curled receipts are best fed in small batches.
Can it scan into a document-management system?
Yes, through its TWAIN, WIA or ISIS driver. Tell us the software name and we check before you order.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For a single accounts or admin desk the ADS-4100 gives you the same feeder and speed as the networked ADS-4500W without paying for Wi-Fi and a touchscreen you will not use. Archive the output to an
external SSD or your server so scans are backed up away from the PC. If you are unsure whether you will need networking within the next year or two, the extra cost of the ADS-4500W is usually easier to justify now than replacing the scanner later.
✓ Buy it if Buy the ADS-4100 if one person scans daily batches into their own PC and you want fast duplex scanning at the lowest price in the family.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if more than one person needs to scan or you want to scan to email or folders from the device itself.
→ Also consider Also consider the Brother ADS-4500W, the same scanner with Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a touchscreen.
