The Brother TN-627BK is the largest black cartridge in Brother’s TN-625 colour laser family, rated at approximately 10,000 pages measured to ISO/IEC 19798. It sits above the standard TN-625BK at 3,000 pages, the TN-625XL at 5,500 and the TN-625XXL at 7,500 — and unlike those three, Brother restricts it to the top machines in the range. That restriction is the single most important thing to check before ordering, because the TN-625 cartridges fit six printers and the TN-627 fits only three of them. It is a toner cartridge only; the drum DR-625CL is a separate part rated at around 30,000 pages.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This cartridge fits the HL-L8570CDW, the MFC-L8970CDW and the MFC-EX570. It will NOT fit the HL-L8430CDW, the DCP-L8630CDW or the MFC-L8730CDW, even though those three machines take the TN-625, TN-625XL and TN-625XXL cartridges from the same family. Brother reserves the ultra-high-yield tier for the larger models. If your machine is one of the smaller three, the TN-625XXL at 7,500 pages is the highest black cartridge available to you. One more thing worth stating plainly: Brother publishes no TN-623 and no TN-626 for this series — the ladder is TN-625, TN-625XL, TN-625XXL and TN-627, and those three-number codes belong to the older HL-L8260 and HL-L8360 generation.

The DR-625CL drum is rated at approximately 30,000 pages and serves all four colours from one unit. The belt BU635CL and waste toner box WT229CL are rated around 50,000 pages each. Buying toner alone leaves those in place.

The first is fitment, and it is unusually restrictive: Brother sells six machines that take the TN-625 family but only three that take this ultra-high-yield tier. The HL-L8430CDW, DCP-L8630CDW and MFC-L8730CDW are excluded, and it is an easy mistake because the cartridges look like siblings on a shelf. The second is volume. At 10,000 pages this is the cheapest black per page in the range, but on a machine printing a few hundred pages a month a cartridge that size may sit in the printer for years, and the XXL at 7,500 or even the standard at 3,000 may suit better. Also worth knowing: on this tier Brother rates all four colours at 10,000 pages, so a full set depletes evenly rather than the colours running out first.
