Cisco Catalyst 9200 C9200-48P-E - 48-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch
48 x 1G PoE+740 W PoEStackWise-160Network Essentials
The Cisco Catalyst 9200 C9200-48P-E is a 1RU stackable access switch with 48 x 10/100/1000 PoE+ ports, a modular uplink slot and StackWise-160 - Cisco enterprise IOS XE switching for branch offices and SMB networks at a lower price than the Catalyst 9300. The default PWR-C6-1KWAC 1000 W supply gives a generous 740 W PoE budget.
The license is Network Essentials (perpetual, embedded): Layer 2 switching plus basic Layer 3 for routed access - static routes, RIP and OSPF. BGP, EIGRP, full multicast and advanced segmentation need Network Advantage. Cisco makes a Cisco DNA / Catalyst software subscription (3, 5 or 7 years) mandatory at the time of purchase, at a tier that matches the network license - Essentials or Advantage. We quote the subscription together with the switch.
Before you order: the base switch has no uplink ports until a C9200-NM-4G (4x 1G SFP) or C9200-NM-4X (4x 10G SFP+) module is fitted - order one with it.
What's in the Box
- Catalyst 9200 C9200-48P-E with the default PWR-C6-1KWAC 1000 W supply installed
- AC power cord, 19-inch rack-mount brackets, screws, rubber feet and cable guide
- RJ-45/USB console cable (per the Cisco installation guide)
- No network module, no transceivers and no stack kit
What It Means in Practice
- 740 W of PoE+ powers about 24 devices at a full 30 W or all 48 ports at 15 W from one supply; a second PWR-C6-1KWAC raises it to 1440 W.
- StackWise-160 joins up to 8 Catalyst 9200 switches into one managed unit with C9200-STACK-KIT.
- Network Essentials covers VLANs, QoS, access security, static, RIP and OSPF routed access - the normal needs of an office access layer.
What Will Not Work
- C9200-NM-2Y and C9200-NM-2Q modules: supported only on the 24PXG/48PXG models, not on the 48P.
- Stacking with Catalyst 9200L, 9300 or other families - only with Catalyst 9200 at the same license level.
- UPOE or 802.3bt devices above 30 W per port.
- Uplinks without a network module.
- Advanced routing (BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS), full PIM multicast and advanced segmentation: not on Network Essentials - they need a Network Advantage upgrade license.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Cisco subscription included?
The perpetual network license is embedded in the switch. The Cisco DNA / Catalyst subscription is a separate line that Cisco makes mandatory at purchase (3, 5 or 7 years) - we include it in the quote.
C9200 or C9300 - which do I need?
The 9200 covers branch and SMB access with routed access and StackWise-160. Choose a 9300 for UPOE, multigigabit, StackWise-480 or full Network Advantage routing.
Which uplink module should I order?
C9200-NM-4X (4x 10G SFP+) for a 10G core or NAS; C9200-NM-4G only if the backbone is 1G fibre.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The C9200-48P-E is the sensible Cisco choice for an office that wants enterprise IOS XE, stacking and lifetime hardware cover without paying for 9300 features it will not use. Its 740 W PoE budget is higher than the C9300-48P default, so a single supply often covers phones, access points and cameras. Add the NM-4X module for 10G uplinks. See our
managed switch range for other port counts and PoE levels.
✓ Buy it if you need 48 PoE+ ports for a branch or SMB office with Cisco stacking.
✕ Skip it if you need UPOE, multigigabit or BGP/EIGRP routing (Catalyst 9300).
