The Cisco CVR-QSFP-SFP10G= (QSA) is an adapter module that slides into a QSFP port and turns it into a single SFP or SFP+ port. Network engineers use it to connect 10 Gigabit (and selected 1 Gigabit) devices to switches and line cards that only have 40G/100G QSFP ports — for example to link a server, firewall or older switch at 10G.
Cisco states that it supports all SFP+ optics and cable reaches — SFP-10G-SR/LR/ER/ZR, DWDM SFP+, FET-10G, SFP+ twinax and active optical cables from 1 to 10 m — plus several 1 Gigabit SFP modules (GLC-T, GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-EX-SMD, GLC-ZX-SMD). Platform support follows Cisco's Transceiver Module Group (TMG) compatibility matrix.
Before you order: QSA support depends on the switch, line card and software release — check your platform in Cisco's TMG compatibility matrix. Example limits: not supported on C9600X-LC-32CD; on C9600-LC-24C a QSA in the even port of a port group does not work if the odd port has 40G QSFP optics.

What It Means in Practice
- One QSA gives one SFP/SFP+ port; you lose the rest of the QSFP port's 40G/100G capacity on that port.
- Insert the SFP+ optic or twinax cable into the QSA once the QSA is seated in the QSFP port.
- Some platforms require the port speed to be configured to 10G (or 1G) before the link comes up.
- 1G support is limited to the listed GLC modules and is platform-dependent — confirm before planning 1G links.
- Compact passive module (max 13.5 × 18.4 × 78 mm, under 100 g).
What Will Not Work
- Does not split a QSFP port into four 10G ports — use a QSFP breakout cable for that.
- Will not make unsupported platforms or software releases accept SFP optics.
- Not a transceiver — no optics included.
- Not every 1G SFP works; only the Cisco GLC modules listed are supported.
