HP Smart Tank 7005 — Refillable Ink Tank All-in-One with Auto Duplex
Up to 12,000 pages in boxAuto duplexDual-band Wi-FiHP 31 / 32XL bottles
The HP Smart Tank 7005 (28B54A#BHC) is an A4 refillable ink tank all-in-one printer that prints, copies and scans with automatic two-sided printing and dual-band Wi-Fi and USB, for homes and small offices that print a lot of colour and want very low cost per page.
Instead of cartridges it uses refillable tanks topped up from bottles — the ink in the box is rated for up to 12,000 black or 8,000 colour pages, so most users do not buy ink for a long time.
Before you order: Uses HP 32XL black and HP 31 colour ink bottles only. Ink tank printers are slower than laser for long mono jobs — 7005 is rated at 15 ppm mono and 9 ppm colour (ISO).
What's in the Box
- HP Smart Tank 7005 printer
- 2× HP 32XL black ink bottles (135 ml)
- 1× each HP 31 cyan, magenta and yellow ink bottles (70 ml)
- Black and tri-colour printheads
- Power cord
- Setup guide and documentation
What It Means in Practice
- Fill the tanks once at setup (the printheads are installed separately) — some ink is used for priming, which is why HP quotes in-box yields for the starter bottles.
- A single HP 32XL black bottle gives about 6,000 pages; each HP 31 colour bottle about 8,000.
- Automatic duplex prints both sides of a page without turning the stack.
- Flatbed scanning at 1200 dpi covers documents, IDs and photos; there is no document feeder.
- HP recommends 400–800 pages per month.
What Will Not Work
- No automatic document feeder (ADF) and no fax line (only send-only mobile fax via the app).
- No Ethernet port — Wi-Fi or USB only.
- Not a laser: long black-only jobs are slower than a mono laser.
- Do not refill with non-HP ink — HP warns that printhead damage from third-party ink is not covered.

Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
If you print a lot of colour — school work, flyers, reports — the Smart Tank pays for itself in ink savings within months versus a cartridge printer. The 7005 is the home and home-office pick; choose the 7605 if you need ADF, fax or Ethernet. Refill bottles are in our original ink range.
✓ Buy it if you print lots of colour pages and want the lowest running cost per page.
