CORSAIR ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W 12V-2x6 Cable — White

600 W 12V-2x6Built-in Thermal SwitchAny Brand Native PSU650 mm · White

The CORSAIR ThermalProtect cable (CP-8920473) is a 650 mm, 600 W 12V-2x6 graphics card power cable with overheat protection built into its comb. A passive bimetallic switch sits 30 mm from the GPU connector; if the connector reaches about 65°C it opens the sense line, and the graphics card reacts by limiting its power or shutting down — CORSAIR says your display goes black — instead of letting the plug overheat. It resets itself when it cools and needs no software, firmware or special GPU. Unlike most CORSAIR modular cables, both ends are standard 12V-2x6, so it works with any power supply that has a native 12V-2x6 socket, of any brand. This is the White version.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Needs a native 12V-2x6 socket on BOTH sides: on your power supply and on your graphics card. It does not work with power supplies that only have 8-pin PCIe outputs and use a 2× 8-pin to 12V-2x6 adapter cable (older CORSAIR Type 4 and Type 5 units without a native socket) — CORSAIR says Type 4 and Type 5 ThermalProtect versions are in development. Direction matters: the end with the CORSAIR logo on the comb goes to the graphics card, the end labelled “PSU” goes to the power supply; reversed, the protection does not work. CORSAIR does not publish a box-contents list; the combs are part of the cable. Tell us your PSU and GPU and we confirm.

Best For

✓ RTX 40 / RTX 50-class cards with a 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR socket
✓ Power supplies with a native 12V-2x6 output, any brand
✓ Replacing a stock GPU cable with an overheat-protected one
✓ Small cases where the GPU plug runs warm
✓ Builders worried about melted GPU power connectors

Key Features

Passive thermal switch
A bimetallic switch touches the power wires through a copper clip inside the comb. At 65°C ±5°C it disconnects sense pins S3 and S4 from ground, so the GPU reads insufficient power and throttles or shuts down.

Works with any native PSU
Both ends are standard 12V-2x6, so the cable is not locked to CORSAIR power supplies — any brand with a native 12V-2x6 output and any GPU with a native socket.

Full 600 W rating
16 AWG power wires, 24 AWG sense wires and 12+4 H++ connector housings rated UL 94V-0 carry the full 600 W PCIe 5.1 load.

Dual-tone connectors
Two-colour connector housings show at a glance whether each plug is fully seated — the most common cause of connector overheating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work with my non-CORSAIR power supply?
Yes, if your power supply has a native 12V-2x6 socket. CORSAIR states it works with any PSU with a native 12V-2x6 output, of any brand and wattage. It does not work with PSUs that only have 8-pin PCIe sockets.
What happens when it trips?
At about 65°C the switch opens the sense line. The graphics card reads that it has insufficient power and limits itself or shuts down — your screen goes black. Let the system cool, check that both plugs are fully seated, and it resets automatically.
Which end goes where?
The end with the CORSAIR logo on the comb goes into the graphics card. The end labelled “PSU” goes into the power supply. If you swap them, the thermal protection does not work.
Do I need software or a special GPU?
No. The protection is entirely passive and in the cable. Any graphics card with a native 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR socket works.
Singular Expert Insight
For any card with a 12V-2x6 socket, the ThermalProtect cable is a cheap insurance upgrade over a plain cable: it keeps the full 600 W rating and adds a hardware cut-off at the connector. Because both ends are standard, it also fits non-CORSAIR power supplies with a native socket. Browse our power supplies — the CORSAIR RMe with ThermalProtect already includes one — or see more computer power cables.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

Your power supply and graphics card both have native 12V-2x6 sockets and you want overheat protection at the GPU connector, in white.

Skip it if

Your power supply has only 8-pin PCIe outputs, or you already own a CORSAIR RMe with ThermalProtect — it includes this cable.

Also consider

The black version (CP-8920472), or a CORSAIR RM850e / RM1000e with ThermalProtect, which ships with this cable in the box.
