Delock Stereo Audio Extender RJ45 — 3.5 mm to 2 × RCA over Cat.5, up to 50 m
Up to 50 mCat.5 patch cable3.5 mm ↔ 2 × RCASet of 2
The Delock Stereo Audio Extender set lets you send an analogue stereo signal over an ordinary network (Cat.5) patch cable for up to 50 metres. One adapter turns a 3.5 mm stereo jack into an RJ45 socket, the other turns an RJ45 socket into two RCA plugs (red/white) — so a PC, phone or media player can feed an amplifier, active speakers or a mixer in another room.
Both adapters are passive and wired 1:1, with 28 AWG black PVC leads. There is nothing to power or configure: you plug the 3.5 mm adapter into the source, the RCA adapter into the destination, and connect the two with a network cable of the length you need.
Before you order: The network cable is not included. You need a straight-through RJ45 patch cable (Cat.5 or better) between the two adapters — and it must not be plugged into a switch, router or wall port that is part of a live network.
What's in the Box
- 1 × adapter RJ45 jack > 3.5 mm 3-pin stereo jack male
- 1 × adapter RJ45 jack > 2 × RCA male (red, white)
- Supplied in a zip poly bag
What It Means in Practice
- Typical use: a PC or streamer at the desk feeding an amplifier or active speakers up to 50 m away.
- You can use existing structured cabling (a free, dedicated cable run between two wall sockets) instead of pulling a new audio cable.
- The signal direction is source (3.5 mm) → destination (RCA). For the opposite direction you would need RCA-to-RJ45 and RJ45-to-3.5 mm female parts.
- Use it for line-level signals; very long runs near mains cables can pick up hum, so route the network cable away from power lines.
What Will Not Work
- It will not carry digital audio (S/PDIF, HDMI audio) or video.
- It does not amplify: it will not drive passive speakers, and headphone outputs at low volume may sound weak at the far end.
- It must not be connected to an Ethernet switch, router or PoE port — the cable has to be a dedicated point-to-point link.
- It does not include the RJ45 patch cable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need power for this extender?
No. Both adapters are passive; the analogue signal travels directly over the network cable.
Can I use a Cat.6 cable?
Yes. Delock specifies Cat.5; a Cat.5e or Cat.6 straight-through patch cable works as well.
Can I run it through my office network?
Only through a dedicated cable run. If the cable passes through a switch, router or patch panel connected to active equipment, it will not work and could damage devices.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Passive RJ45 audio extenders are the simplest way to get a stereo signal across a room or a floor using cheap network cable — as long as the run is dedicated and the source has a line-level output. For HDMI or longer video-and-audio links, look at our
video splitters and powered HDMI extenders instead.
✓ Buy it if you need analogue stereo from a 3.5 mm source to RCA inputs up to 50 m away over a free network cable.
✕ Skip it if your audio is digital (optical, HDMI) or the cable run passes through active network equipment.
→ Also consider a single long 3.5 mm to RCA cable for runs under 10 m, where no extender is needed.
