The DIGITUS DN-82021-1 is a Fast Ethernet media converter that bridges a 10/100 copper RJ45 port to 100Base-FX single-mode fibre over an SC duplex connector at 1310 nm, for links of up to 20 km — a compact, unmanaged way to connect remote cameras, buildings or cabinets over fibre.

Copper from your switch goes into the RJ45 port, a pair of single-mode fibres into the SC duplex port, and the included 5 V adapter powers it. The far end needs a matching 100Base-FX single-mode dual-fibre device, such as a second DN-82021-1.

Before you order: 100 Mbps, single-mode, dual fibre (SC duplex) at 1310 nm. It will not link with Gigabit fibre ports, multi-mode equipment or single-strand (BiDi/WDM) converters.

What It Means in Practice

  • Extends a 10/100 Ethernet link up to 20 km over 9/125 µm single-mode fibre.
  • Install as a pair (one per end) or connect to a switch with a 100Base-FX single-mode SC port.
  • Auto-MDI/MDIX and auto-negotiation on the copper side — any patch cable works.
  • Link Fault Pass-through (LFP): if the fibre or copper link drops, the other side drops too, so your switch or NVR sees the fault immediately.
  • Only 2.5 W consumption.

  • No Gigabit — fibre side is 100 Mbps only.
  • Not for multi-mode fibre.
  • Not a single-fibre BiDi unit — needs two fibres.
  • No PoE output, no management.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a second unit?
Yes, unless the far end already has a 100Base-FX single-mode SC port at 1310 nm. Two DN-82021-1 make a complete link.
What does Link Fault Pass-through do?
If the fibre is cut, the converter also drops the copper link, so the connected switch or recorder reports the fault instead of showing a live but dead port.
Can I use LC patch cords?
Only SC-to-LC single-mode duplex hybrid patch cords; the converter port itself is SC.
