The Digitus DN-82211 is a 10 Gigabit media converter that links a copper RJ45 port (1G, 2.5G, 5G or 10G) to fibre through an open SFP slot, so you can extend a multi-gig network connection over fibre between buildings, floors or racks.
It converts 1000BASE-T to 1000BASE-X, 2.5GBASE-T to 2.5GBASE-X, 5GBASE-T to 5GBASE-R and 10GBASE-T to 10GBASE-R. The reach depends on the SFP module you fit — up to 80 km with long-range optics.
Before you order: No SFP module is included. Fit an SFP/SFP+ module that matches the speed you need and the fibre type (multimode or single-mode) of your link — and use the same type on the far end.

What It Means in Practice
- Typical use: a multi-gig switch port or NAS on copper connected to a fibre run — one converter at each end, or a converter on one end and an SFP+ switch on the other.
- Speed is set by the RJ45 device and the SFP module: for 10G you need a 10G SFP+ module and a 10GBASE-T device.
- Auto MDI/MDI-X means any straight Cat cable works on the RJ45 side; store-and-forward with backpressure and bandwidth control per port.
- Desktop unit with status/activity LEDs and an external power adapter, operating at 0–55 °C.
What Will Not Work
- Working without an SFP module — the slot is empty.
- 100 Mbit/s copper devices — the supported RJ45 speeds are 1G, 2.5G, 5G and 10G.
- Powering devices — there is no PoE.
- Industrial or outdoor use — it is an indoor, non-industrial unit.
