Terminate a 24-fibre single-mode trunk in one rack unit, ready to splice
12x LC duplex UPC24 fibres OS2Pigtails pre-installedSliding 1U drawer
The DIGITUS DN-96331/9 is a 19-inch 1U sliding fibre splice box equipped with 12 LC/UPC duplex couplers and 24 coloured OS2 single-mode pigtails, built for installers terminating single-mode trunk or backbone cables in a network rack.
The patch side comes ready from the factory: the couplers sit in the front panel and the pigtails are exposed and laid into the splice cassette. On site you strip the incoming cable, fusion-splice each fibre to its pigtail and close the drawer. The steel tray slides out to the front, so you can splice comfortably and return to the cassette later without removing the box from the rack. Single-mode is the choice for long runs between buildings, across a campus or to a carrier hand-off point, and 24 fibres give twelve duplex links with room for redundancy. Because single-mode links run over longer distances, a clean, well-protected splice matters more: the cassette keeps each splice in order and covered, and the factory pigtails remove the risk of a poorly polished field connector adding loss to an already long link. Couplers, pigtails and cassette come as one equipped unit, so you avoid the usual mismatch of parts from different suppliers.
Before you order: This box is OS2 single-mode with LC/UPC couplers. It is spliced only to single-mode cable. For multimode OM3/OM4 trunks order DN-96331-4; for angled APC connectors order DN-96331/9APC.
What's in the Box
- 1x 19" 1U sliding splice box, 12x LC/UPC duplex couplers fitted
- 24 coloured OS2 pigtails, prefabricated and laid into the splice cassette(s)
- Splice cassette(s) with cassette cover
- Strain relief for the incoming cable
- M20/M25 screw fitting
What It Means in Practice
- 24 fibres means 12 duplex links: two fibres per port, one transmit and one receive. A 24-fibre single-mode trunk fills the box exactly.
- UPC polish suits standard Ethernet single-mode links such as 1G LX and 10G LR transceivers with LC duplex connectors.
- Many FTTH, PON and video-over-fibre systems use APC (green) connectors. If your carrier or system specifies APC, this is the wrong version.
- No field connectorisation: the factory pigtails give consistent connector quality, and your work is limited to the splices.
- The sliding drawer needs slack on the cables behind it so the tray can move without pulling on the splices.
- At 240 mm deep it suits shallow wall cabinets as well as full-depth racks; leave space behind for the cable entry and bend radius.
- Record which trunk fibre colour lands on which front port as you splice; a correct record saves hours when a link has to be traced later.
- Single-mode connectors are less forgiving of dust than multimode. Keep the dust caps on unused ports and clean each LC end face before patching; most link problems after installation come from dirty connectors, not from the splices.
What Will Not Work
- Multimode (OM3/OM4) trunks: splicing multimode fibre to OS2 pigtails gives a failed link. Order DN-96331-4.
- APC (green, angled) patch cords or carrier hand-offs: these couplers are LC/UPC. Order DN-96331/9APC.
- SC patch cords: the front panel is LC duplex only.
- More than 24 fibres: there is no room to add couplers. Use the 48-fibre DN-96332/9.
- Splicing without a fusion splicer: tools, trunk cable and rack mounting screws are not in the list of included parts.
Key Features
Factory-equipped
Twelve LC duplex couplers with ceramic sleeves and the matching OS2 pigtails are already installed, so the job list shrinks to the trunk cable and splice protectors, and every port behaves the same. On single-mode, where small connector faults cost a lot of link budget, factory terminations are the safer choice.
Sliding drawer design
The tray pulls out to the front for splicing and later maintenance. In wall cabinets and crowded racks that saves working from behind the equipment, and it lets you re-splice a damaged fibre without disturbing the other eleven links.
Steel housing
1.0 mm varnished sheet steel in light grey RAL 7035 protects the splices from knocks and matches most rack interiors.
Cable management included
Strain relief, cassette cover and an M20/M25 screw fitting are supplied so the incoming cable is secured and the spliced fibres are covered.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it 12 or 24 ports?
12 LC duplex ports carrying 24 fibres. For 24 duplex ports choose the 48-fibre DN-96332/9.
Does DN-96331/9 differ from DN-96331-4?
Yes. The /9 is OS2 single-mode; the -4 is OM4 multimode. They are not interchangeable, so match the code to your trunk cable.
How does the trunk enter?
From the rear, secured with the supplied strain relief and screw fitting, then routed to the cassette where each fibre is spliced to a pigtail.
Are splice protectors included?
They are not listed in the included parts, so bring the protectors your splicer and cassette use.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Before ordering, check two things on the trunk and the far end: the fibre type (OS2 single-mode for this box) and the connector polish (UPC here, APC on many carrier and PON systems). Getting either wrong means re-splicing. To finish the rack with patch cords, cable managers and blanking panels, see our
rack accessories.
✓ Buy it if Buy it if you are terminating a 24-fibre OS2 single-mode trunk with UPC connectors in a 19" rack and want the couplers and pigtails already fitted, so the only field work left is splicing, labelling and patching to your switches or the carrier equipment.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if your trunk is multimode (DN-96331-4), your system needs APC (DN-96331/9APC) or the trunk has 12 or 48 fibres (DN-96330/9 or DN-96332/9).
→ Also consider OS2 LC/UPC duplex patch cords in the lengths your rack needs, single-mode SFP or SFP+ transceivers (LX or LR) for both ends of the link, splice protectors for your splicer, an LC cleaning tool and a 1U cable manager to keep the patching tidy.
