Unwind heavy cable drums without twisting or damaging the cable

The DIGITUS DN-CR-001 is a cable drum roller measuring 600 x 400 x 100 mm that takes drums up to 540 mm wide and 150 kg, built for installers pulling large quantities of network or power cable on construction sites and in server rooms. The drum sits on the rollers and turns freely as you pull, so the cable pays out straight instead of spiralling off the flange.
Pulling cable off a drum lying on the floor puts twists into the pairs and drags the jacket across the drum edge. Twists change pair geometry and can cause failed certification on CAT6A and CAT7A links. The roller avoids both problems, and at under 6 kg it travels easily from site to site in a van. The support rollers adjust individually, so one frame handles small reels from 102 mm diameter up to large 600 mm drums. That covers the 500 m drums used for most copper installation cable, as well as many fibre and light power cable drums used on the same sites.
Before you order: Check your drum before ordering: it must be no wider than 540 mm, between 102 and 600 mm in diameter, and no heavier than 150 kg including the cable.
What's in the Box
- 1 x DIGITUS cable drum roller, 600 x 400 x 100 mm
What It Means in Practice
- Place the frame on a flat, firm floor near the start of the run and set the support rollers to the drum diameter before lifting the drum on.
- Typical 500 m drums of CAT6A or CAT7A installation cable fit comfortably; a 500 m CAT7A drum weighs around 34 kg packed, well under the 150 kg limit.
- One person can feed cable while another pulls, without a second person holding a broomstick through the drum.
- The low 100 mm frame height keeps the drum close to the floor, so it stays stable as it turns.
- Galvanised steel resists rust on damp building sites and needs no special care beyond wiping off dust and debris.
- The frame is compact enough to store under a workbench or in a van between jobs.
- When feeding several runs from one drum, mark the cable at each cut and note the remaining metres on the drum flange so you know what is left for the next job.
- In server rooms, the roller lets you work from the doorway or a raised-floor opening without dragging a heavy drum across finished floors.
- Re-check roller spacing whenever you change to a drum of a different diameter; a drum sitting too high or too low on the rollers turns unevenly.
What Will Not Work
- It does not hold drums wider than 540 mm or larger than 600 mm in diameter; very large cable drums need a jack-type drum stand with an axle.
- It is not for cable in pull boxes such as 305 m cartons; those pay out directly from the box.
- It is not a cable winder: it lets drums turn freely but does not wind cable back on by itself.
- Do not exceed 150 kg in total; heavy power or armoured cable drums can pass that limit quickly.
Key Features
Twist-free unwinding
The drum rotates on the rollers as cable is pulled, so pairs stay straight and the jacket does not rub against the flange.
Adjustable support rollers
Individually adjustable rollers accept drum diameters from 102 to 600 mm on the same frame.
Strong but light
Galvanised steel construction carries up to 150 kg while the roller itself weighs only 5.95 kg.
Compact frame
At 600 x 400 x 100 mm it fits through doorways, lifts and stairwells, and into a van alongside the cable, so it can follow the drum from floor to floor.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an axle or pipe through the drum?
No. The drum rests on the support rollers and turns on its flanges, so no axle is needed and drums with damaged or odd-sized centre holes still work.
Can I use it for fibre optic or power cable drums?
Yes, as long as the drum stays within 540 mm width, 102-600 mm diameter and 150 kg total. The roller does not care what kind of cable is on the drum.
Will it work with 1000 m drums?
Only if that drum is within the width, diameter and weight limits above. Check the drum dimensions on the cable datasheet before ordering.
How do I stop the drum overrunning?
Pull at a steady pace and keep a hand on the flange when you stop, so the drum does not keep spinning and loosen turns of cable.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A drum roller pays for itself on the first big job: twisted or kinked pairs are the most common reason a new CAT6A or CAT7A link fails certification, and re-pulling one run costs more than the roller. Pair it with installation cable from our
network cables range and set the rollers before lifting the drum. For drums over 150 kg, use a jack stand with a steel axle instead.
✓ Buy it if Buy it if you regularly install from 500 m or 1000 m drums of network, fibre or light power cable and want clean, twist-free pulls with fewer people on site. It is especially worth it for contractors who certify CAT6A or CAT7A links and cannot afford re-pulls.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if you only work with 305 m pull boxes, which pay out from the carton, or with drums heavier than 150 kg or wider than 540 mm, which need an axle-type jack stand.
→ Also consider Consider CAT6A or CAT7A installation cable on drums, cable pulling rods and a cable certifier for testing the finished links.
