The Digitus DS-72217 is a 16-port Cat5 KVM switch module that installs into a Digitus 17" or 19" modular LCD KVM console, letting one console control up to 16 servers over standard Cat5 cabling.
Each server connects through a small Cat5 dongle (USB or PS/2 plus VGA) and a regular Cat5 patch cable of up to 60 m, so servers can sit in other racks or rows without bulky KVM cables. The switch is cascadable, supports hot-plugging and keyboard/mouse emulation, and gives full BIOS-level control with no software to install.
Before you order: This is a module for Digitus modular LCD consoles, not a standalone KVM switch. A compatible Digitus 17" or 19" modular console is required and not included.

What It Means in Practice
- Install the module in the Digitus modular console, then run a Cat5 patch cable from each RJ45 port to a dongle on each server.
- Dongles connect to the server via USB or PS/2 plus VGA — check that your servers still have a VGA output.
- Distance per server is up to 60 m over Cat5 UTP.
- Autoscan cycles through servers every 5–90 s (selectable); remote power wake-up and cascading are supported. An optional DS-51000-1 IP module adds remote access.
What Will Not Work
- Use without a Digitus modular LCD console — it has no monitor or keyboard of its own.
- Servers with only HDMI or DisplayPort outputs — the dongles take VGA.
- Remote access over the network out of the box — the DS-51000-1 IP module is sold separately.
- Patch cables between switch and servers are not included.
