DIGITUS DA-70245 — four ports, all of them 10 Gbps

10 Gbps on every port2 x USB-A + 2 x USB-CBC 1.2 fast charging33 g aluminium, 15 cm lead

The DIGITUS DA-70245 is the fast one in its family: two USB-A and two USB-C ports, every one of them running USB 3.1 Gen 2 at up to 10 Gbps rather than the 5 Gbps most hubs settle for. That is the speed a modern portable SSD actually needs. The USB-A ports also support BC 1.2 charging, so a phone draws a proper current rather than a trickle. The body is 95 mm of aluminium in dark grey, 33 g, on a 15 cm captive cable, using a GL3590 controller.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This hub has no Power Delivery input and no power supply — it takes a USB-C port on your laptop and gives nothing back, so on a machine with one USB-C port you will be choosing between the hub and the charger. If charging matters, the DIGITUS DA-70242-1 is the model with a PD socket, though its data ports are 5 Gbps rather than 10. Everything is bus-powered, and DIGITUS does not publish a per-port current, so two bus-powered drives at 10 Gbps at once is optimistic. Note also that the port layout is 2 x USB-A plus 2 x USB-C, not four USB-A.

Best For

✓ Portable SSDs that can use 10 Gbps
✓ Video and photo work with large files
✓ Laptops with a mix of USB-C and USB-A devices
✓ Travel kits at 33 g
✓ Card readers and fast flash media
✓ Anyone who found a 5 Gbps hub was the bottleneck

Key Features

10 Gbps on all four ports
USB 3.1 Gen 2 throughout, so a fast portable SSD reaches its rated speed rather than being capped near 450 MB/s. On large media transfers that halves the wait.

Two of each connector
Two USB-A and two USB-C sockets mean the drive you bought this year and the mouse you bought five years ago both plug in directly, with no adapter chain.

BC 1.2 on the USB-A ports
The full-size ports implement Battery Charging 1.2, so a phone or tablet on the hub draws a real charging current instead of the default trickle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 10 Gbps worth paying for over a 5 Gbps hub?
Only if something you own can use it. A mouse, keyboard, flash drive or card reader will never notice. A modern portable SSD will: on a 5 Gbps hub it is capped at roughly 400 to 450 MB/s, and at 10 Gbps it can approach double that. If you move large video or photo libraries through a hub, this is the specification that changes your day. If you do not, buy a 5 Gbps model and spend the difference elsewhere.
Will it charge my laptop?
No. There is no Power Delivery input on the DA-70245 and no power supply in the box — it occupies a USB-C port and gives nothing back. If your laptop charges over USB-C and has few ports, look at the DIGITUS DA-70242-1 instead, which has a dedicated USB-C Power Delivery socket; the trade is that its data ports run at 5 Gbps rather than 10. Tell us your machine and we will match it.
How many USB-A ports does it have?
Two. The DA-70245 is a 2 + 2 layout: two USB-A and two USB-C, all data-capable at 10 Gbps. Some catalogue listings describe it loosely as a four-port USB hub, which reads as four full-size sockets. If you need four USB-A ports specifically, this is not the model — tell us and we will point you at one that is.
Singular Expert Insight
Most hubs in our USB hub range stop at 5 Gbps, and for the things people usually plug in that is the right call. The DA-70245 exists for the one case where it is not: external SSDs and fast card media, where 10 Gbps is roughly twice the throughput and the hub stops being the bottleneck. What DIGITUS traded away to get there is charging — there is no PD socket at all, so on a single-port ultrabook this hub and the charger cannot both be connected. That is the choice to make consciously: the DA-70242-1 is the same family with a PD socket and 5 Gbps ports. Pick on which limit you would rather live with, and remember the layout here is two USB-A and two USB-C, not four full-size sockets.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You own a portable SSD or fast card media and a 5 Gbps hub is holding it back. You need both USB-A and USB-C sockets without adapters. You want a 33 g aluminium hub that travels and needs no power supply.

Skip it if

Your laptop has one USB-C port that you also charge from — this hub has no Power Delivery. You need four full-size USB-A ports. Everything you connect is a mouse, keyboard or flash drive, where 10 Gbps buys nothing.

Also consider

DIGITUS DA-70242-1 if you need a Power Delivery socket and can live with 5 Gbps. A 5 Gbps hub if nothing you own can use 10. A USB-C dock if you also want Ethernet and a display over the same cable.
