Ricoh fi-8820 — A3 Production Scanner, 120 ppm Duplex with 500-Sheet ADF
120 ppm / 240 ipmA3 · 500-sheet ADF100,000 sheets/dayUSB 3.2 + Gigabit LAN
The Ricoh fi-8820 (formerly Fujitsu fi series) is a mid-volume A3 production document scanner that scans both sides of A4 pages at up to 120 pages per minute (240 images per minute), built for scanning bureaus, archives and back offices processing around 100,000 sheets a day.
Two CIS sensors capture front and back in one pass, the 500-sheet feeder takes a full ream, and three ultrasonic sensors plus Intelligent Multi-Feed help stop double feeds before they become missing pages. It connects by USB 3.2 Gen 1 or directly to the network by Gigabit LAN.
Before you order: This is a 23 kg desktop production unit (460 x 430 mm footprint) — plan a sturdy table. Rollers are rated for about 700,000 scans each; budget for the CON-3830-700SK consumable kit on heavy schedules.
What's in the Box
- Ricoh fi-8820 scanner with pick, brake and separation rollers fitted
- Power cords (UK and EU)
- USB 3.0 A–B cable (2 m)
- Setup DVD with PaperStream software
- Getting Started Guide, quick installation sheet, safety and warranty sheets
What It Means in Practice
- A 500-page batch loads in one go and is captured double-sided in a few minutes.
- Mixed batches from thin 20 g/m² paper to 570 g/m² card (straight path) go through the same scanner.
- A3 and double-letter originals up to 305 x 431.8 mm are scanned without folding; long documents up to 6,096 mm are supported at lower resolutions.
- Network connection lets several workstations share one production scanner.
What Will Not Work
- Not a flatbed: bound books and fragile originals cannot be scanned page by page.
- It is not a low-volume office scanner — for a few hundred pages a day a desktop fi model is more economical.
- PaperStream Capture Pro is an optional licence, not included.
- No colour printing or copying — it is a scanner only.

Regular cleaning and roller replacement around every 700,000 scans with the CON-3830-700SK kit.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The fi-8820 is the entry point to Ricoh production class: it keeps the 500-sheet feeder and A3 path of its faster siblings at 120 ppm. If your daily volume is closer to a few thousand pages, a departmental fi model is the better buy — see our
document scanners range.
✓ Buy it if you digitise thousands of pages a day and need A3, a 500-sheet feeder and network connection.
✕ Skip it if you scan occasionally or need a flatbed for books.
→ Also consider the faster fi-8930 or fi-8950 for higher daily volumes.
