Edimax EU-4208 — USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter
10/100 MbpsUSB-A 2.0RJ45Status LEDs
The Edimax EU-4208 is a compact USB 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet adapter with auto-negotiation and full-duplex operation. It plugs into a USB-A port and gives a laptop, ultrabook, tablet or desktop PC a wired Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) connection through one RJ45 socket. Two LEDs show power and link, 20 KB receive and 20 KB transmit buffers smooth the traffic, and the adapter drops to very low power when idle. Edimax lists Windows, Mac OS 10.5 and later and Linux. A cable connection is the practical answer when Wi-Fi is weak or crowded, when a laptop has no network port, when the built-in port has failed, or when a PC needs a second network interface.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Compatibility — check before buying: USB-A plug: laptops with only USB-C ports need a USB-C to USB-A adapter, or the USB-C version of this adapter. Fast Ethernet only: the maximum is 100 Mbps. That is enough for internet up to 100 Mbit/s, printers and remote desktops, but not for fibre broadband above 100 Mbit/s or large file copies — for those choose a Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter. Edimax lists Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, Mac OS 10.5 or above and Linux; Windows 11 is not in the official list. Not sure it suits your device? Frequently Asked Questions
Is 100 Mbps fast enough?
For internet up to 100 Mbit/s, printers and everyday office work, yes. For faster broadband or big file copies, choose a Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter.
Do I need to install a driver?
Edimax supplies a CD with a setup wizard and drivers. Many current systems recognise the adapter without it.
Does it support Windows 11?
Edimax lists Windows up to 10. It often works on Windows 11, but it is not officially listed — ask us before buying for a Windows 11 PC.
Can I use it with a docking station or hub?
Yes, if the hub or dock port is USB 2.0 or newer. Many docking stations already have their own RJ45 port, so check the dock first.
Singular Expert Insight
We suggest the EU-4208 as a simple, well-documented Fast Ethernet adapter for older PCs, Linux boxes and Macs, or for set-up work on routers and printers. For faster lines, a Gigabit USB 3.0 adapter is the better buy. For more ports or a full desk setup, see our
docking stations; for the other end of the cable, browse
network switches and
routers. More
network cards are in the same category. Local support in Cyprus comes with every order.
