The Edimax EU-4306 V2 is a small adapter that adds a Gigabit Ethernet port to a computer through a USB-A port. It uses the ASIX AX88179A chipset over USB 3.2 Gen 1, so a cabled connection runs at up to 1000 Mbps, and Edimax describes it as plug and play with no driver installation on supported systems. It is bus-powered, weighs 21 g and supports VLAN, flow control and Energy-Efficient Ethernet. In practice it gives a thin laptop without a network port, a PC with a broken port, or a Nintendo Switch in TV mode a stable wired connection for video calls, large downloads and online gaming.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It plugs into a USB-A port; a laptop with only USB-C needs a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Edimax lists Windows 8.x/10/11, macOS 10.11 to 11 Big Sur, Linux kernel 2.6 to 5.x, Chrome OS and Nintendo Switch OS. Windows 7 and macOS versions newer than Big Sur are not on its list, so ask us before ordering for those. On a USB 2.0 port it still works, but slower than gigabit. Tell us your laptop model and we check it.

Edimax describes the V2 as plug and play on Windows 8.x/10/11, macOS 10.11 to 11, Linux, Chrome OS and Nintendo Switch. For older or newer systems not on the list, ask us first.
Will it work with a USB-C laptop?
Only with a USB-C to USB-A adapter, because the EU-4306 V2 has a USB-A connector.
Does it work with the Nintendo Switch?

What changed from the first EU-4306?
