Edimax EW-7811UAC — AC600 High-Gain USB Wi-Fi Adapter with Cradle
AC600 dual-bandHigh-gain antennaUSB cradle 1.2 mWPA3
The Edimax EW-7811UAC is an AC600 dual-band USB Wi-Fi adapter with an external high-gain antenna (4 dBi on 2.4 GHz, 6 dBi on 5 GHz) and a USB cradle on a 1.2 m cable, giving a desktop up to 433 Mbps on 5 GHz or 150 Mbps on 2.4 GHz from a spot where the signal is best.
The cradle is what sets it apart: instead of sitting behind the PC case, the adapter can stand on the desk or a shelf, closer to the router and away from metal — often the difference between a weak and a stable connection. It also supports WPA3 and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Before you order: Edimax lists Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11, macOS 10.9–10.15 and Linux kernel 2.6.18–5.11. macOS 11 or later is not listed, so do not count on it for recent Macs.

What It Means in Practice
- Put the cradle on the desk or high on a shelf with line of sight to the router for the best signal.
- 433 Mbps on 5 GHz suits streaming, video calls and office work.
- WPS button for one-press connection to compatible routers.
- Works directly in a laptop USB port too, without the cradle.
What Will Not Work
- Wi-Fi 6 speeds — this is an 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) adapter.
- macOS 11 Big Sur and later — not in Edimax's list.
- Linux kernels newer than 5.11 without your own driver build.
- USB-C-only laptops without a USB-A adapter.

Will it work on my M1/M2 Mac?
Edimax lists macOS up to 10.15 only, so recent Macs are not supported.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For a desktop far from the router, an adapter on a cradle often beats an internal card in the back of the case. The EW-7811UAC is a solid Wi-Fi 5 choice with WPA3; check your OS against Edimax's list first. More options in our
