The Edimax Pro MG-1000AS1 V2 is a Gigabit SFP module for single-mode fibre: 1000BASE-LX at 1310 nm over an LC/UPC duplex connection, up to 10 km on 9/125 µm fibre, with an 11.5 dB power budget. It is the standard LX module for Edimax Pro switches and for other switches and media converters with MSA-compliant SFP ports. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs more than a few hundred metres: the 9/125 µm fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It needs two single-mode fibres and a 1310 nm LX module at the far end; it will not run on multimode fibre (Edimax’s MG-1000AMB V2 is the 2 km multimode part) and will not pair with a single-strand BiDi module. It is rated 0 to 70 °C; for cabinets choose the industrial MG-1000AS1I. As a plain duplex LX optic it links to any standard 1000BASE-LX module, including the older V1. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
