The Emtec D280 Dual is a 32 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive with a full-size USB-A plug at one end and a USB-C plug at the other, both exposed by swivelling the body. Emtec publishes read speeds of up to 80 MB/s and write speeds of up to 20 MB/s. The housing is moulded from 100% recycled plastic. It is the simplest way to move files between a phone and a computer without a cable or a cloud account.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This drive reaches both kinds of port, which is the whole point of it: the USB-A end fits any normal computer, and the USB-C end fits modern Android phones and tablets, recent iPhones, and laptops whose ports are all USB-C. Emtec lists iOS and Android support explicitly — but note its own wording: that support is via the USB-C end only. An older Android phone with a micro-USB port will not fit. ???? The model name is a trap. Emtec’s product is the D280 Dual; there is no product called “D283” — that is just the fixed series code inside the part number, identical across ECMMD32GD283, ECMMD64GD283, ECMMD128GD283 and ECMMD256GD283, where only the capacity digits change. Two genuinely different Emtec drives to keep clear of: the D400 has a USB-C connector and no USB-A end at all, so it will not plug into a normal computer, and the D250 Mini is USB 2.0, USB-A only. On speed: the 80 / 20 figure is one Emtec publishes for the whole D280 family rather than per capacity, with its own caveat that performance varies by device.

Will it work with my phone?
If your phone has a USB-C port, yes — that covers most Android phones sold in recent years and recent iPhones. Emtec lists iOS and Android support through the USB-C end. An older Android phone with a micro-USB port will not fit, and neither will an iPhone with a Lightning port. Tell us your phone model and we will confirm before you order.
Is this the D280 or the D283?
The D280. Emtec has no product called D283 — the letters sit inside the part number and are identical at every capacity in the range. If a listing calls it a D283, it is quoting the SKU, not a different drive.
How is it different from the Emtec D400?
The D400 is USB-C only. It has no USB-A end, so it will not plug into a normal desktop or an older laptop without an adapter you supply yourself. This D280 has both, which is why it costs a little more.
What colour is it?
Emtec does not publish a colour for this part number, so we do not state one. If the shade matters — for colour-coding drives across a team, say — ask us to look at the stock we hold before you order.
