The Equip 255418 is a 20 m LC-to-LC duplex fibre patch cable on laser-optimised OM3 multimode 50/125 µm fibre, built for linking switches, servers, storage and patch panels through short-reach multimode optics in server rooms, offices and data centres.
Both ends carry small-form-factor LC duplex connectors, and the aqua LSZH jacket follows the usual OM3 colour coding, which makes the link easy to recognise in a busy rack.
Before you order: OM3 multimode only: it pairs with 850 nm multimode transceivers (1000BASE-SX, 10GBASE-SR and similar). It will not give a reliable link between single-mode (OS2, 9/125 µm) optics such as 1000BASE-LX or 10GBASE-LR modules.

What It Means in Practice
- Plug one duplex connector into a multimode SFP/SFP+ transceiver or patch panel port at each end — one fibre carries transmit, the other receive.
- At 20 m this cable suits links between rooms, across a floor or up a riser to another communications room.
- Equip rates this OM3 cable for 10G Ethernet up to 300 m, so the 20 m length leaves a very large margin.
- If the link stays dark after plugging in, reverse the two fibres at one end (Tx/Rx swap) — every duplex fibre link needs transmit on one side to meet receive on the other.
- The LSZH jacket gives off little smoke and no halogen gases in a fire, which is why it is the usual choice for offices, public buildings and enclosed server rooms.
What Will Not Work
- Single-mode optics (OS2 9/125 µm, typically 1310/1550 nm LX/LR/ER modules) — use a single-mode patch cable for those.
- Copper RJ45 ports — the switch or NIC needs an SFP/SFP+ slot with a multimode fibre transceiver fitted.
- Ports with SC or ST connectors — you need a cable with the matching connector at that end.
- Outdoor, underground or direct-burial runs — this is an indoor patch cable.
