The Equip 255230 is a 30 m LC to LC duplex fibre optic patch cable with OM3 multimode 50/125 µm fibre, for connecting switches, servers, optical transceivers and patch panels in data centres and enterprise networks — Equip lists it for 10G applications.
Both fibres are terminated with ceramic-ferrule connectors for low insertion loss, and the aqua LSZH jacket identifies the cable as OM3 at a glance and is suitable for indoor installation in occupied buildings.
Before you order: this is a multimode OM3 cable with LC and LC PC/UPC connectors. It works with SR (850 nm) multimode optics; it is not for single-mode (OS2) optics or APC connectors.

What It Means in Practice
- The LC connectors on both ends fit SFP/SFP+ transceivers and LC patch panels directly.
- IEEE specifies OM3 for 10GBASE-SR up to 300 m and 40G/100G SR4 up to 100 m; 30 m is well inside those limits, so cable length is not the limiting factor here.
- Duplex means two fibres: one transmits, one receives. If a link stays dark, swap the two connectors on one end (A/B crossover) — the clip lets the pair be separated.
- Use the same OM grade end to end: mixing OM3 with older OM1/OM2 sections lowers the reach of the whole link.
What Will Not Work
- Single-mode optics (LR, ER, BiDi 1310/1550 nm SM) or OS2 cabling — they need yellow single-mode patch cords.
- LC/APC or SC/APC (angled, usually green) ports — PC and APC end faces must never be mated.
- Copper RJ45 ports or empty SFP cages — the switch port needs a multimode SFP/SFP+ transceiver fitted.
- Outdoor or direct-burial runs — this is an indoor LSZH patch cable.

For short-reach fibre between racks or from a patch panel to a switch, OM3 duplex is the safe default: it covers 10G today and leaves headroom for 40G/100G SR optics. Check the cage type on your switches with SFP/SFP+ ports and match the connector ends.
