Equip ST-ST Duplex Fiber Optic Patch Cable, OS2 Single-Mode 9/125, 10m, LSZH, Yellow

OS2 single-modeST-ST duplex10 mLSZH

The Equip 252236 is a 10 m duplex ST-to-ST single-mode OS2 (9/125 µm) fibre patch cable with a LSZH jacket in yellow, for connecting LR/LX single-mode optics in switches, routers, media converters and patch panels.

Duplex means two fibres in one cord: one transmits and one receives, which is what almost every SFP module and media converter expects. The LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) jacket gives off little smoke and no halogen gases in a fire, which is why it is the usual choice for offices, server rooms and shared spaces.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × ST/ST duplex fibre patch cable, 10 m
  • Measurement protocol

What It Means in Practice

  • Single-mode OS2 is what long-reach optics expect: SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and QSFP modules marked LX, LR, ER or ZR (1310/1550 nm). The distance limit comes from the transceiver, not from this 10 m cord.
  • UPC polish (flat end face): it mates with standard UPC single-mode ports and couplers, which is what most data and enterprise SFP optics use.
  • ST: bayonet (twist-lock) connector found on older multimode and industrial equipment and legacy patch panels
  • Colour code: yellow is the usual jacket colour for single-mode fibre, so the run is easy to tell apart in a shared rack.
  • Handling: keep the dust caps on until you plug in, clean the end faces before mating, and route the cable without sharp bends or tight ties — most "dead" fibre links are a dirty connector or a kinked cord, not a faulty cable.

What Will Not Work

  • Multimode SR/SX transceivers (850 nm) — they need OM3/OM4 multimode cable; single-mode cable will not give a reliable link with them.
  • APC ports or couplers (green, 8° angled) — UPC and APC end faces must never be mated: it adds heavy loss and can damage both end faces.
  • SFP/SFP+ modules — those use LC. Use an LC-to-ST cord for a direct module connection.
  • Copper RJ45 ports — fibre needs an optical transceiver or a media converter at each end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which way round do the two fibres go?
Duplex links cross over: transmit at one end must arrive at receive at the other, and factory duplex cords are built that way. If the link stays dark, swap the two connectors at one end.
Does it limit speed to 1G or 10G?
No. The cord is passive; speed and reach are set by the transceivers at each end, as long as both are single-mode and use ST connectors. Fibre grade still matters for reach — see What It Means in Practice.
Can I join two cords for a longer run?
Yes, with a coupler of the same connector, fibre type and polish. Each joint adds a little insertion loss — fine for a single joint on short links, but one cord of the right length is cleaner. Longer lengths of the same cord are usually available; ask us.
Do I need to clean the connectors?
New cords arrive capped and clean, but every time a connector is unplugged or left open it can pick up dust. A one-click fibre cleaner for ST before each connection is the cheapest way to avoid loss and intermittent links.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A fibre cord has to match your equipment on three things: fibre type (single-mode OS2), connector (ST) and polish (UPC/PC). Before ordering, read the label on the SFP module (e.g. LR or LX) in your switch with SFP ports. Measure the route with some slack: fibre should never be pulled tight or bent sharply.
✓ Buy it if your optics are single-mode LR/LX with ST ports and the route is about 10 m.
✕ Skip it if your transceivers are multimode (SR/SX), or one end needs a different connector.
→ Also consider the multimode OM4 version for SR optics, or a different length of the same cord.
Not sure which cord you need? Send us the model of your switch, SFP module or patch panel and we will check fibre type, connector and polish before you order.
